Hey there everyone! I've got a question I was wondering if anyone could help me out with. Long story short, I had a paragard IUD for just under 7 years when I traded it in for permenant sterilization in December of 2013 and I've been exceptionally happy with my decision. However, over the past 5 years or so, my periods have been getting heavier and heavier (even post-paragard, so I don't think the 2 are related). They're very short lived, about 2 days, 3 at the most, but while it's happening I have to wear a cup and a pad because I just gush. Also, I've actualy started getting cramps over the past few months (this is unsurprising as coincides with starting grad school and cramps have almost always been connected to stress for me.) Point is, I've been thinking about getting a Mirena just to see if I can ditch this whole period thing.
While I know that birth control is now free, the IUD wouldn't be birth control for me, so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this and knows if I'll have to pay out of pocket? Also, I sounded at 5cm at my paragard insertion, so I'm worried I may not be able to qualify for a mirena anyway? If anyone has any experience in this arena, I'd appreciate it.
