I've been suffering from occasional cold sores for about the last 6 years. I got one last Monday after a week of being ill with a bad cold and not getting much sleep. I did my usual thing of covering it in Zovirax cream. As usual, it had scabbed over within 3-4 days, but annoyingly, the scab doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I accidentally knocked it off while brushing my teeth, so another one formed, but I've had this one for several days now. I'm surprised it's lasting so long - normally the entire process, from the blister appearing to the scab falling off is done in a week. Right now it's a weird white colour for some reason. I don't know if it's getting irritated by toothpaste or what. The reason I'm anxious is that my current partner is coming to visit me next Friday, 9 days from now, and I'm worried that I won't be able to kiss him or do anything with him. Would I still be infectious then?
Also, is it normal to get swollen lymph nodes in your groin? I've never had that before with a cold sore outbreak, but they seemed a bit tender this time around. AFAIK I don't have HSV genitally and haven't noticed any sores or lumps there. I did go to the toilet and wipe after touching the cold sore (before I realised it was a cold sore, it seemed like a hard bump, and I also get those often), but pretty sure I washed my hands, even if it wasn't as well as I wash them when I know I'm dealing with HSV.
