Finally have the Mirena IUD

For years I wanted to have this form of birth control but I could never afford it. I finally found an obgyn that easily and quickly was able to help me get it. I've only had it in for about 4 days but I don't feel anything. After my period (doctor said it had to be inserted during period) I noticed a day of light spotting but that's it. The doctor however never mentioned anything about having to check for the strings. After googling a lot, I did attempt to but I haven't felt anything. Tonight I let my boyfriend ejaculate in me for the first time. I had to reassure him it would be ok, he joked saying "what if I have super sperm?" Lol. It was a very enjoyable experience, although I did make sure the first time we did this it was not during my fertile time. I do have a question though, are the strings important to feel? What can I expect (besides the possible spotting) to anyone who also has or had the mirena? I made my 6 week follow up already but I figured Id come here and ask in the mean time, thanks!
