I have only met my new doctor once. She started by asking me when my last period was. I told her around January (my periods have always been very irregular) and she looked at me quizzically. She asked if there was any chance I was pregnant and I said "No, I am gay." and she seemed really uncomfortable around me after that. She asked if I have had a Pap smear and I told her no. She asked if I would like one the same day and I agreed to.
The procedure itself was unexpectedly painful and I bled for 2 days straight afterward. This morning the doctor called and said I have "bacteria in the vagina" and said to call her if I seem to be experiencing any symptoms, and that we will keep an eye on it.
I don't know if this means I have bacterial vaginosis? Or something? Does it seem like she would have suggested something other than keeping an eye on it if it were something serious? She tested for HPV/chlamydia/gonorrhea and those came back negative.
I am just really anxious about this. I don't even feel comfortable discussing it with my doctor for fear of judgment and it is just really stressing me out. Thanks so much in advance for any advice.
