Using tampons: mild discomfort?

Hi everyone!

First post here. I've been reading through a lot of the community posts over the weekend and have found a lot of good info but not anything directly related to what I'm about to ask regarding tampons:

I used a tampon for the first time yesterday. Inserting it wasn't as difficult as I'd expected because I read about it here beforehand. However I do feel a very slight discomfort. I'm using Tampax Pearl (regular absorbency) and their instructions said that this discomfort means the tampon probably wasn't inserted far enough. So today I tried to insert it a teensy bit further before removing the applicator - I was almost going to lose my hold on the applicator grip because I'd inserted it that much higher. Even after doing this, I still feel this discomfort. It's not painful, it's more that I'm constantly aware that I have a tampon in (but maybe it's because I'm not used to it?). Also whenever I have to bend down to put on a shoe for example, and even when I sit in my chair at certain angles, the discomfort increases.

My questions are: Is it normal to feel this? (Is it because I've just started to use tampons?) Should I try a different size/length tampon? If I feel this, should I remove the tampon immediately even if it's dry and then try again?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks and I hope everyone is having a great weekend :)
