So, so itchy!

I'm incredibly itchy and have had a few treatments already. Details in the cut.

In late September, I had a paragard IUD inserted. I am wondering if it is making me susceptible to infections, or maybe my vaginal pH is just off somehow so the introduction of semen has been making it worse. In November, I got a bacterial vaginosis infection. It was treated with metronidazole pills that made me really sick. The odor and discharge went away, but I was left with an awful itch around my vulva, esp. the inner labia, & the vaginal entrance. I tried the diflucan doses that my doctor gave me (I usually get yeast infections after using antibiotics), but they didn't do anything. I tried home remedies, using coconut oil, tea tree oil, and vitamin E oil on separate occasions until I noticed some peeling skin on my inner labia! None of the home treatments seemed to help much. I feel like I would need to be reapplying something all day long to get relief.

The next day, I went to the doctor & they tested for yeast and BV, but there were no signs of anything. I did a week course of metronidazole cream. The itch was gone while I was using it, but returned as soon as I was done with the course. I did some reading online and read about using boric acid capsules, inserted vaginally, to treat infections. My doctor told me to try it for 3 days (overnight), then twice a week for a couple of weeks/as needed. I'm only on day 2, but I'm still VERY itchy, actually worse than yesterday. I'm also taking a probiotic right now. I'm fed up with this. I'm using Vagisil for the itch, but it wears off sooner than I can apply it (every 3-4 hours, but wears off in 1-2). I'm wear loose cotton underwear (except when needed for the discharge created by the boric acid), not using soap in the area, and doing sit-and-soak sessions in warm water w/ boric acid every night. That relieves the itch for a short time.

I don't want to douche, but I'm wondering if that might be more relieving with the boric acid mixture than just the sitting and soaking or the capsules? Also thinking of mixing coconut oil with the tea tree oil for external relief, since coconut oil is too mild and tea tree oil is too strong on their own.

I think I'm going to try and see an actual gynecologist soon. I have no idea what this may be and I am feeling really upset about this! I have no desire for sex & when I do have sex with my husband, I get sore so easily because the skin is tender. I'm not scratching the itch either! This is very stressful.

Anyone had problems like this? What was your treatment method?
