Every month when my period arrives, I get tired. Really tired. Like sleep 14 to 16 hours a day and almost can't make the hour drive to work without falling asleep tired. Does anybody have any suggestions about how to cope with this fatigue?
Here is some background, including what I've tried.
Bloodwork suggests I am not anemic, vitamin-deficient, or hypothyroid. I'm 35, NP, with a history of very heavy bleeding. I now have a Mirena (yay) which has reduced my bleeding back to heavy-but-manageable. My periods are extremely regular. I take medication for hypothyroidism, and my blood levels are all normal. I eat a diet rich in veggies and meats, and my iron levels are normal. I take multivitamins, including extra vitamin B and vitamin D. I take Omega 3,6, and 9. I also take antidepressants, but while they seem to control my fatigue at other times of the month, they fail colossally at period time. I get about 30 to 45 minutes of aerobic exercise (spin class, running in the pool, or dance) daily along with 30 minutes to an hour of strength and flexibility work like Pilates and freeweights. I have one rest day a week. I also have a dog who gets walked about 45 minutes a day, but we're not going very fast because she likes to Smell All The Things.
Any ideas/suggestions would be welcome, I'm kind of out of ideas myself! Thanks for this great community!
