UTI Questions

Hello, I've had UTI's before so I know what it feels like and the symptoms. I know mine are caused by sex but I try to take steps to prevent them. Anyways, a couple weeks ago I KNOW I had a UTI. I went to the doctors, they did a test and said there was no sign of it. So they went a step further and did a STD test and that came out negative too. They sent me on my way.Literally, a few days after my doctors appointment, all the symptoms went away without any type of antibiotics.
I was determined not to get another UTI, though after having sex again with my boyfriend, I can feel another one coming on. I went and bought cranberry pills and started taking them yesterday. I just don't have time to go to the doctor, and for it to not be an actual UTI. Therefore, what I am asking is should I just wait this out again and wait for it to go away? Will my body just fight off the infection? & why was I so sure that I had one a couple weeks ago yet my doctor said no?
Thanks for any responses.
