For background, I'm a 23-year old cis-female. I've had one child, and she was a planned cesearean birth with no active labor. I have no STDs and I'm in a monogamous relationship with a cis-male.
Around the sixth or seventh month of my pregnancy, I began to get small hemorroids. No bleeding or infections, just minor annoyances. I noticed around the same time that if I wore thong underwear, there was a bad smell on the part of the underwear where the fabric would touch my anus. It didn't smell like feces, but it definitely wasn't just sweat. I just chalked it up to the underwear aggravating my hemorroids and I switched to regular panties for the remainder of my pregnancy.
Fast forward to six weeks postpartum, when I was given the all clear to wear thongs again. The smell returned even though I had no hemorroids or leaking of any kind. I was tested for BV and a YI, but everything came out negative. My gynecologist said to change my laundry detergent and dryer sheets and sent me on my way. This did not help either.
Even now, 16 months after I first noticed this happening, I still get that bad smell when I wear thongs. I worry I have some sort of infection or I'm getting chafed in some horrible way, but I have no symptoms besides the smell.
Has anyone else experienced this? Am I doomed to just suck it up and wear regular underwear? (I hope not!)
