probiotics for yeast prevention

Hi VP!

I am on a quest for a perfect probiotic to prevent yeast.  I'm looking for a probiotic that has the right bacteria necessary for a healthy vagina.  I plan to use it orally every day, and then insert it vaginally if I feel a yeast infection coming on.  I've had (relative) luck doing this with random probiotics so I'm hoping if I find a good one it will really help.

The problem is that I cannot for the life of me figure out which bacteria I should be looking for.  Around VP a lot of people recommend lactobacillus acidophilus.  Health care professionals have suggested Purfem and RepHresh Pro-B, which are marketed as yeast prevention probiotics, but they don't even have acidophilus!  I'm confused!  Here's what they include:

  • Purfem: Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Lactobacillus gasseri.
  • RepHresh Pro-B: Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1 and Lactobacillus reuteri RC-14.

The other problem is that both are a bit too expensive, particularly purfem which is 25$ for 10 capsules.

So.  Do anyone know which bacteria I should be looking for?
And does anyone have a specific brand that they have had success with?

Thank you kindly!
