Hormones/penetration delaying periods?

Hi all,

So recently I've realized that when I engage in sexual activity involving any sort of penetration, my period will be delayed for a few days or up to a week if I have more "intense" PIV sex or the like. On months where I don't do anything, my period usually starts on the day it's supposed to. I was wondering if there is a scientific reason for this, and if so, what it is.

All I've found online is that the hormones that are there when you're sexually excited can "push back" the period but I found this on yahoo answers and so I am curious for a more educated answers. When I search it on google, it usually just brings me to posts where women are concerned if they're pregnant. Since my period is usually always extremely regular, I figured there had to be some direct coorelation b/w sexual excitement/penetration and delayed periods.
