insurance says 30 days for birth control refills -- ?!
I'm posting this question on behalf of a friend -- I hope that's okay. She's trying to get on the pill and is running into a simple yet infuriating problem: the pills come in packs of 28, and her insurance will only allow her to refill the prescription every 30 days. Neither of us have heard of an insurance policy doing that with birth control; it just makes no sense, and clearly skipping two days out of every month (in addition to the placebo week) is not a good idea in terms of maintaining protection.
So... do other people have policies that work like this? What's the best way to deal with it (other than paying for every 14th pack out of pocket)?
She is actually looking to stack continuously (and has been given the okay by her doctor to do so), so ideally she'd be looking to get a new pack every 21 days -- either way, the 30 day limit for refills is not going to be workable.
