I'm going in for my first pelvic exam in about a month or two (we're trying to set up an appointment so nothing's set in stone) and I'm really scared and nervous about it for certain reasons.
When I was eight years old, I was hospitalized for e.coli. I had no clue what it was, but I knew I was being pricked with needles a lot and it scared me.
Towards the end of my hospital stay, they had to check to see if my kidneys were all right. I don't remember them telling me what they were going to do though. They had to catheterize me and it hurt so bad. My mom told me she nearly passed out because I was screaming so loud. Then they told me to pee in front of them, and I couldn't do it.
They had to use a catheter one more time after that and I still screamed but I wasn't forced to pee like before.
Now that I'm eighteen, it's about time for me to get one. However, even THINKING about it makes me so scared I start to cry and shake and it's hard for me to control.
Does anyone know if there's anti-anxiety medication to take before or any ways to relax before? Thanks.
