Possible infection? Or something?

I've been having some unusual going-ons with my vagina recently, and I'm not sure if it warrants seeing a doctor or self-treatment or if anything is actually wrong.

Symptoms include itching, over-dryness at times and discharge at other times (especially over night; I usually end up having to change my underwear before bed and when I wake up in the morning), and an odor that isn't the usual odor of my vagina. I used to use plain ivory soap and warm water to wash down there, but since these symptoms have started (about 2 weeks ago), I've stopped using soap and just use water. I've been wearing just cotton underwear to bed, sans pj pants. But these things don't seem to be helping. Also, I've recently become sexually active. My husband and I were married on December 28th. We both practiced pre-marital abstinence and thus are each other's first sexual partners. It took about 3 or 4 days before I become comfortable with penetration, and only started feeling some discomfort and extra tightness last night. I am on hormonal birth control (Microgestin FE, started in October) and we don't use condoms.

I've never had a yeast infection, or any other issue with my vagina before, so I'm completely in the dark about what I should do. Any advice would be great. Thanks!
