Migraine Tips?

Before or during my period (or, more correctly at present, my withdrawal bleed since I am on HBC), I get migraines. This isn't the only time I get them, since they also seem to be stress-induced for me, but I'm assuming hormonal change is definitely one of the triggers.

This last one has lasted for THREE DAYS. Generally I can collapse in the bed for about 12 hours of dark, quiet stillness and be able to function, but this last migraine has had about three "peaks," during which I get extremely nauseous and hot and have pain so bad that it feels like I might actually black out. Nothing (not Goody or Excedrin, my go-to headache remedies; not even 800 mg ibuprofen) can touch my migraines. An ice pack or cold rag is usually unbearable.

I know this is partially genetic. My mom gets awful migraines, and years ago my grandmother's were so bad that she would usually have to be taken to the emergency room, pretty much catatonic.

I have actually asked one doctor about my very frequent and severe headaches/migraines, and was simply told that I should "be less stressed." (Yeah, not even kidding.) I was also prescribed something that was supposed to "improve my appetite and lessen my headaches" which only succeeded in making me HALLUCINATE. So...I'm not all that jazzed about discussing this with a doctor, as I seem to find crappy ones wherever I go.

Anyways, fabulous VPers, I was just hoping that some of you knowledgeable folks might have some advice, since I am sure I'm not the only person who has contemplated removing her brains with a rusty spoon just to get a little relief! Thanks in advance!
