inconsistent PMS symptoms

I used to have a very regular cycle. I would get my PMS symptoms about a week before my period was due; basically just sore breasts and moodiness with some moderate cramping the day before and the day of my period. My period always lasts about four days and is pretty much always the same in flow.
Two months ago, my symptoms changed a bit. My breasts suddenly got sore the day after I ovulated and caused me a lot of grief, since I'd learned that sore breasts are one of the first signs of pregnancy. In my next cycle, I had absolutely no symptoms whatsoever until the day my period arrived, three days late, with some light cramping. In my current cycle, my breasts started to get sore the day after ovulation AND I'm noticing some very light cramping. I'm a little bit emotional as well.
I really don't know why this is happening. Everything has always been like clockwork and now it's suddenly not. Have your PMS symptoms always been the same, or did they ever flip out and change on you like mine are? Is this normal?

* When I say "ovulate," I mean "the day I notice an excess of cervical mucus when I got to the bathroom." It's always around the same time every month. I didn't notice any this month but the symptoms I'm concerned about showed up right after I would have "ovulated."
* There is a very, very low chance of pregnancy. The sex in question was two weeks and a few days ago, very shortly after my last period ended. We used a condom. Earlier that day during a quickie, we'd used the pull-out method but knowing how I get concerned about pregnancy, my boyfriend makes sure there is never any sperm in his precum.
