I got a pap smear a couple of months ago. I just got the notification from my insurance company about it, and it turns out that I was also tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea. The doctor didn't mention anything about STD tests to me, and when someone from the doctor's office called me to tell me my results were normal, she didn't mention any STD tests either. If the doctor had mentioned the tests to me, I would have told her I didn't need them done. The tests aren't covered by my insurance, either, so I'm… displeased, to say the least.
What I want to know is, is this standard for a pap? This was my first one, so I don't know how it's normally done. I had assumed the doctor would tell me if they were doing any extra tests, and give me the option to refuse, but I don't want to argue it with the doctor's office if this is standard procedure.
