Enlarged ovary and one or two cysts on ovary?

Woke up to a lovely call.... the results of my CT scan that I had on Friday.

So my left ovary is enlarged and there is one or two cysts on it.

I know nothing about why this happened or what it means because I've never had this problem before. I've never had cysts on my ovaries (at least not that I knew of) and never an enlarged ovary.

So this explains why my cycles are really messed up recently, to not being able to ovulate to a messed up luteal phase, etc.

I am scared. I looked up stuff about enlarged ovary and it said it could be due to ovarian cysts or ovarian cancer.

Cysts on ovaries aren't that uncommon, are they? What causes them? Has anyone here had an enlarged ovary and was it caused by a cyst? How do you get rid of cysts? Just wait till they rupture on their own?

I am really worried. Enlarged ovary can mean PCOS, ovarian cysts or ovarian cancer. :-(

I do have an appointment with my gynecologist today. I was told I would need a trans-vaginal ultrasound, but I don't think they'll do it while I'm on my period. I wish they would because I just want to KNOW what's going on, but I don't think they will. Will they make me wait and come back later to have that done? Or has anyone had a trans-vaginal ultrasound while on their period?

PS - the reason why I had the CT scan in the first place is due to pain on my left side and a weird sensation on my left side, like a feeling of going down a roller coaster. I would have that sensation many times a day for a week or so, usually after my period. So obviously the cysts or enlarged ovary are causing the pain and odd sensations in that area.
