Recurring bartholin gland cyst

Okay, so a little over a month ago, I got a Bartholin's gland cyst that turned into an abscess. It got so bad that I had to go to the ER one night because I couldn't stand, walk, sit, or even just lay in bed without being in excruciating pain. I had to have it cut and drained; gauze was packed in it, and they gave me some antibiotics.

Today I've felt a little tender in that area, but kind of shrugged it off because I'm on my period and thought maybe the pad was just irritating me. But I felt down there just a minute ago and I feel as if I can feel a tiny little cyst forming again. I am of course freaking out, because I don't want to have to go through that pain again, and I'm supposed to be going camping/river tubing this weekend and have been looking forward to it, so I don't want it to get worse. :(

Please, someone tell me the chances of it getting worse, or if I can treat it at home? I would really like to avoid all the pain from last time. What can I do for it? And what am I supposed to do about it recurring? The ER doctor told me (and I read online) that I can get the gland removed, but that doesn't sound very fun. Anyone have experience with these?

Edit: I know that I can take hot sitz baths as a method of treatment, as well as hot compresses. But other than that, is there anything? Basically, once I notice a bump, is it past the point of no return? When is it so bad that it won't heal on its own? I'm really looking for hope that I can get this to go away on its own in the next few days and prevent it from becoming an abscess like my first one.
