Return of the vengeful uterus (heavy periods & hbc)

Hi everyone,

The backstory: all through my teens (I'm in my mid-20s now) I struggled with heavy (i.e. having to change a super tampon every 3 hours, having to double up protection during the night :p ), sometimes painful periods until I became sexually active and went on the pill. First, I tried Tri-cyclen, then Yasmin, but both failed to solve my problems. Finally, my doctor put me on Marvelon, and that helped immensely, but after about two years, the heavy periods came back. My doctor sent me for some blood tests to check for hormonal issues and an ultrasound to look for fibroids, but didn't find anything. I was found to have an iron deficiency, but this cleared up after taking iron pills for a few months (combined with finally finding a bc pill that worked). I ended up switching to Demulen, which worked marvelously. My periods were almost non-existent, and this lasted for about 2.5 years.

Unfortunately for me, I got my period a couple of days ago, and it seems my uterus is rearing its ugly head for another battle. I've had the old, familiar burning feeling in my lower back & abdomen, upset stomach, terrible skin, and while I haven't been gushing all over myself like I used to, my period is definitely heavier than it's ever been since I started taking Demulen.

Has anyone ever had similar experiences with period problems coming back after a certain amount of time on hbc? I'm hoping that this is just a one-time thing since I've been under a lot of stress recently, and I know that stress can sometimes influence one's cycle. I plan on seeing my doctor if it happens again next month, but in the meantime, I'm feeling very frustrated. After having my periods interfere with my life for almost a decade, it was really liberating not to worry about feeling miserable, staining my clothes/sheets, or packing enough tampons for an army in my purse. I really don't want to have to go through this again!

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide!

*edited to add the bit about the iron deficiency... it's been so long since I had to take iron supplements that I completely forgot about it!
