Aftercare for Bartholin's Gland abscess removal

(also posted to ask_a_nurse, but I figured I'd get quicker responses here and maybe some more personal experiences)

I went to the ER last night (Monday night) because the pain from my cyst (at the time I didn't know for sure it was one, I just assumed) was so bad that I couldn't stand up straight and I had to crawl to the bathroom. After waiting for seven hours, they finally cut and drained my abscess. They packed gauze inside the cut and told me it would probably fall out in a few days.

I started my period during the surgery (my luck, right?) and I totally forgot to ask the doctor if my period would interfere with anything. The spot they made the incision at is very close to my vagina--is there anything to worry about as far as contaminating it with menstrual blood or anything? Also, how long should I wait before taking a bath as opposed to a shower? And how long should I wait before having sex again?

Oh, and on the off chance anyone knows: they also gave me a shot of Rocephin in my butt after they were done. As of tonight, the muscles around the injection site are VERY sore, and there is slight bruising. It hurts a little when I walk and when I put pressure on that spot. Normal? How long will it take to feel better?

Thank you!
