throwing up a birth control pill.

hello!

so, i take my birth control pill between 11:45 and midnight every evening. i took it tonight, as usual, and then about an hour later, i threw up from coughing really hard. oops. but, anyway. i dont know what this means!

what am i supposed to do now?

do i take the next pill in my pack or do i just take the next one tomorrow,as usual?
i am sexually active and am planning on being active sexually tomorrow, so i imagine i am supposed to use a second set of protection for a while now. how long, though?

HELP! im all frazzled now. =[

oh, and the birth control i take is microgestin fe 1/20.

thank you!!!

Seven days is the traditionally recommended length of time for backup protection.

i looked in my pill info packet, and it didnt say anything about missed pills, except for if you miss one, take is ASAP. but, i dont have the one i "missed" because its down the toilet.

basically, can i just keep taking my pills regularly and using a condom for the next 7 days or so, and not have anything too awful happen? D;

Never been on HBC but I was always told to take another if I threw up one of my epilepsy pills within two hours of taking it. My doctor said it was better for me to perhaps get a double dose than to risk having none because it hadn't had a chance to absorb.
If I were you I'd treat it as a missed pill and follow the pack instructions.

This section of the Vulvapedia has instructions for what you can do. Basically, you have 3 options:
1) If you have a spare pack or can get a spare pack, take a pill from your spare pack. Then save the rest of the spare pack for future situations like this.

2) If you don't have a spare pack now but can get one before your placebo week, do that. Finish the rest of the actives from this pack, then proceed directly to the actives of the next pack, skipping your placebo week.

3) If neither of those are options, consider your protection compromised for the rest of this pack and until you've taken 7 active pills from your next pack. A back up method would be advised until then.

luckily, when i went on BC, my doctor gave 13 months worth of pills, so i DEFINATELY have a spare pack i can break into.

do you know, by chance, if i am supposed to take the specific pill i lost out of my spare pack, or can i just pop any of the actives?

thank you so much. =]

You're on Microgestin? That's a monophasic pill -- meaning all of the active pills are exactly the same. You can take any active pill out of your spare pack, and it will be exactly the same as the pill you missed.
