I am currently in the midst of a "debate" in another community [a beauty community] about the frequency of cold sores. I said that about 80% of the population has it, but some never show symptoms, so they don't even know they have it, and are therefore unable to report being HSV-1 positive.
Could anybody link me to several sources that say this? I found the ASHA [Social Health Association] which says About 50 percent to 80 percent of the adult population in the United States has oral herpes, with as many as 90% having the virus by age 50.
Just looking for more sources. Could not find much from Mayo Clinic or CDC.
