I've been taking Marvelon 21 BCP for the past couple years, but a doctor recently suggested I try Apri 21, which she described as a cheaper generic version of Marvelon. She told me it had the exact same chemical properties (except for coloring, non-medicinal ingredients, etc.), but I've found that each time I've taken it I've spotted quite considerably sometime during the second week. I tried one month's worth of Apri awhile ago and found that I spotted; switched back to Marvelon (no spotting); and have maroon lining-like stuff coming out of me now that I'm back on Apri again.
If they're supposed to have the same ingredients, why am I spotting on the generic and not the brand name? I checked online and they do both seem to consist of desogestrel (0.15 mg) and ethinyl estradiol (0.03 mg). I also wonder if I'm slightly less depressive on Apri, but I think that may have more to do with me getting a job than anything else!
Has anyone else noticed any differences between BCPs that have the same chemical make-up? Or does anyone have any ideas as to what could be accounting for the differences?
