Today, I have a urinary tract infection. I am, as you may imagine, ecstatic.
Since this at most the third (and possibly only the second) time in my life I've had a UTI and since using a diaphragm can increase the chances for developing UTIs, it seems reasonable to suspect causation here.
My question now is whether anyone else has experienced this -- UTI after starting to use a cervical barrier -- and had it be an isolated incident. Or, I suppose, has had it become a recurring thing; it probably makes sense to know either way. I'm sure I'll try the diaphragm again regardless, but visiting the doc -- or, even more expensive but life-savingly convenient, the Minute Clinic -- is not cheap. There's probably a limited number of times I can re-try it before I start to feel like it's a Bad Idea waiting to happen.
Also, does anyone know any additional UTI prevention tips besides those mentioned in the Vulvapedia? I already do all of those, save the avoiding strong spices -- an action which has not been noticeably interfering with my urogenital health thus far in life and so which I don't believe is going to be a make-or-break factor in avoiding future urinary tract infections.
