I think I got better for a few days, but Monday I was sent home from tech week for our production of Rocky Horror. I've never heard of anyone being sent home from tech ever, so I was apparently really bad. I sounded like I had cotton in my mouth, fever was back. The next day I went to the health center. They tested me for mono and sent out a blood test. Everything was normal. They put me on penicillin again for five days and gave me some Prednisone (a steroid) to make my glands less inflamed so I could, you know, swallow, sleep lying down, etc. (OMG PREDNISONE IS A MIRACLE). Also this marks my first YI of the saga, which I pretty much cleared up with some monistat 3.
When I ran out of Prednisone that Sunday, I was in trouble. I could feel the tickle coming back on Monday, Tuesday I had the friend I probably caught this from take me to an urgent care place. I was put on Z-pack for 5 days. I had a fever again. Z-pack did nothing (not even give me a YI which is cool)
So on Halloween, my parents came to pick me up, and a lot of people asked to see my throat since it had been such a problem and I'd been absent from the production of the show. They basically backed away very quickly. I went to my family doctor on Monday and his first words were "So how would you like your tonsils out?" Perfect. By then it was exactly what I wanted to hear. So I was put on Augmentin (for 7 days) and more Prednisone while they sent out another throat culture, which has since come back negative. I saw a specialist the same day.
The specialist refused to consider taking out my tonsils after such a short(?!) period of illness. He basically said that I would have to be this sick for months over the course of 2-3 years(!!). His assistant seemed convinced that I was getting reinfected by the boy I got it from (which made me want to scream "HE'S A BIG HOMO! THAT'S NOT WHAT'S HAPPENING!!!). Urgh anyway, the assistant couldn't get my history right, or understand the drugs I was on, so they decided I should take Augmentin for 10 days. Cue second/third/fourth YI of this process, I've lost count.
I've also been getting crazy stomaches everytime I eat.
So anyway, I took a week off of school to get this resolved, and I am not any better than when I left. No one knows what is wrong and though everyone agrees that I don't have a bacterial infection in my throat, I'm still on antibiotics. When I finish this course on Wednesday, I'll have taken antibiotics for 27 out of the last 31 days.
Is it safe to continue treating my resulting YIs with tea tree oil? What about Monistat? Is it even wise to try to treat when I'm still on antibiotics?
