why does my period make me feel physically sick?

does anyone else here feel like they have the flu every time they get their period? my throat feels horrible and dry no matter what i do, i'm somewhat dizzy, runny nose, i feel achey, and overall just crappy. i think this has happened 3 times now when my period comes. it just started this morning.

I know you're more susceptible of getting the flu/other ailments when you're on your period, perhaps thats what is happening to you? I always take extra precautions, I wash my hands more often and as soon as I feel that way I begin taking Airborne.

I sometimes get flu-like symptoms if I'm not taking good care of myself at the time--like not eating or sleeping well, or stressed out, or not excercising. In my experience, I've noticed that even getting just a littl excercise before my period comes will alleviate syptoms.

I don't know if it's exactly what you're experiencing, but maybe something to think about :) Hope you feel better next time around!

I get sneezy and beginning-of-cold-y right before my period, if I don't sleep enough. Sucks.

I get like that when I'm on mine, 'specially during the flu season. Immune system or something gets low or something like that :)

I feel weak and exhausted on every period-which is normal. I dunno about flu-like symptoms, although what others said about a weakened immune system sounds interesting.

I get nausea and chills for a couple days at the height of my period. You're not the only one who feels flu-y. =)

I get extremely tired to where I could probably sleep for 27 and a half hours, get up to pee, then go *back* to bed for another full day and still feel drowsy for a day or two before/at the start of my period. No flu-like symptoms beyond that, though. I think everyone reacts a little differently to the hormonal changes and etc. I haven't got any tips besides just making sure you eat well and get plenty of rest. Oh, and stay hydrated; that always seems to help.

I get that a bit with my period, but even more so with ovulation -- so I know how you feel. Hormonally-related flu-like symptoms suck. :(
