Mons pubis tattoos

My boyfriend brought me home one of those temporary tattoos from E3 (it's this logo, if you were wondering) and after some pondering on where to put it, I shaved extra well yesterday and slapped it on my mons.

And I'm discovering I kind of like it! Despite not being what I would ever get a permanent tattoo of, it's kind of cute and really fun to have a little secret like that. And it makes me laugh when I catch sight of it during sex :)

Does anyone here have a tattoo there? Did it hurt? May I see it? I'm seriously considering this. Although obviously deciding on something I wouldn't mind having permanently drawn on me, and not a video game logo.

Thanks and cheers!

I don't have a tattoo, but I do have some piercings, including a genital one. I can tell you right now a tattoo or a piercing of any kind is going to hurt-particularly one in the genital area with more nerve-endings.

A good commuinity for the rest of your questions might be some of the tattoo communities; there are a lot of them, and they'll happily show you pics and give you lots of helpful advice there as well. (No offense to the ladies here or anything by any means, I just think you might want to target a tattoo com with this as well to really cover your questions.)

:)

I've had a tongue piercing done - it migrated out, boo! - but that's the only sort of body modification I've ever done. I don't even have my ears pierced!

Thanks for the community recommendation - I looked in your userinfo and it seems you're a member of a few. Do you have any specific recommendations?

I do not have a tattoo there, but I do have a tattoo so let me warn you a little bit.

Tattoos ARE painful, and differ in pain depending on where you get them. Mine is on my wrist wrist, and it hurt like a fucker. It feels kind of like someone is scraping the top layer of your skin off with a hot iron.

Also, the healing time is extensive, and I can imagine that you would not be able to masturbate and certainly not engage in any sexual activity for a while. It would also be a bit painful to wear tight undies and pants, as I know that it hurt to have tight sleeves rubbing up against my tat.

On the flipside, after getting my tat and having it heal, it looks and feels amazing. If you're willing to deal with the pain and the healing process of getting a tat, then I think getting one on your mons would be awesome. Just make sure that you've done your research and you know what you're getting into. Bring someone with you to hold your hand when you get it done (like a cute boy! that will help!), and follow whatever instructions the artist gives you regarding healing and you should be great :)

I have two tattoos. Both on my back. Neither of them hurt all that much. Now, I don't have a tattoo or piercing involving my mons so I can't say that it wouldn't be painful. But I think that everyone's pain threshold is different. I had no problems wearing any clothing afterwards. I just kept them lotioned and well taken care of.
krisann 22nd-May-2006 01:54 am (UTC)
agreed.

I watch tattoo shows alot, and the thing with pain is that people do have different thresholds, but the area is very important.

If you are getting tattooed on your back, it won't hurt as much as say your hip. It has to do with bones, and they say that if your tattoo is ontop of a bone it will hurt alot more than if there are layers of fat to take the hit.

I got a tattoo on my hip bone and I was laughing the entire time. It tickled! I didn't think getting my lip pierced hurt or even my tongue (until it was healing and I was hungry!!) It depends.
queenofdelosers 22nd-May-2006 03:04 am (UTC)
I was laughing when I got mine too. I thought it tickled. :)
gothstar 22nd-May-2006 03:36 am (UTC)
ditto. it was uncomfortable but the machine part rubbing up against my hip, with the vibration, made it tickle a lot.
naugthy_pucca 22nd-May-2006 03:59 am (UTC)
I know! I got one in my hip bone as well and it really didnt hurt. I was giggling the whole time. I was a happy girl =) I loved my tattoo.

I agree, everybody's threshold is different. It also depends how bad you want it ^.^
queenofdelosers 22nd-May-2006 03:03 am (UTC)
Right. Mine are right on my spinal chord. If they'd been on my hip or ankle they would have hurt more. But the mons is mostly fatty tissue... right?
fiercekitty 22nd-May-2006 02:57 pm (UTC)
That's what I'm thinking/hoping. Of course, there is a pubic bone right there too. Who knows. Luckily my pain threshold is pretty high.
tanzabonanza 22nd-May-2006 07:31 pm (UTC)
I have three tattoos -- one on my hip bone, one on my lower back/spine, and one on my shoulder blade. None of them hurt very much at all -- it all depends on what your tolerance for pain is. My mom had one done on her wrist and she barely flinched.
dollyvamp 22nd-May-2006 01:40 am (UTC)
I don't have a tattoo on my mons, but I do have one that goes down the front of my torso and stops right above my mons. The pain all depends on your own tolerance. To me, the pain is never as bad as I expect it to be. Currently have tattoos on my upper arms, front of my shoulders, around my ankles and one down my front.
dollyvamp 22nd-May-2006 01:42 am (UTC)
also, the one on my torso: The pain was pretty intense down towards my mons, but the fact that I was on my period at the time probably had a bit to do with that
lyenuv 22nd-May-2006 01:40 am (UTC)
I've got a tattoo partially on my moms, but mostly on my thigh. To tell the truth, after the initial pain it was nothing to me, but I've got a pretty high resistence to pain, and it's completely different for everyone :3

Took about two weeks to fully heal, I kept cocoa butter on it, and it never even scabbed. I don't remember whether I wore pants with it, or just ran around in boxers, since I was still in High School at the time and was on Summer Vacation x3.

In general, the closer a tattooed area is to the bone, or the more sensitive an area it is, the more it will hurt (even with an individual tat, you can often feel the pain increase when it gets close to a surface bone).

That varies a lot depending on individual pain threshold and the artist doing it (some artists tend to go harder as part of their style; others are more gentle as part of theirs). Some people might not feel it that much, for others it will be incredibly painful.

So that said, relative to the rest of the body the mons is likely going to hurt more than other areas, since it's both a sensitive region and very close to the bone. I don't have one there, but that would be my general guess.

That said, if you have any other tats, you'll probably be perfectly prepared for this one.
fiercekitty 22nd-May-2006 03:16 pm (UTC)
I don't have other tats but I had a tongue piercing done when I was 16. Thanks for your input :)
evilpinkbear 22nd-May-2006 03:21 am (UTC)
pinch the area hard. pinch another area hard. compare the pain. multiply that by 5 or something. that is about how much it could hurt. (my brother is a tattoo artist, and that is a rough gague he told me before)
littlebluegrrl 22nd-May-2006 03:22 am (UTC)
I have a few tattoos, three actually. The one on my toe barely hurt at all..the one on my ankle was minimally painful...but the one on my back KILLED me...

I am looking for a tattoo that I really want to show you...maybe I'll find it!
littlebluegrrl 22nd-May-2006 03:33 am (UTC)
this is the biggest pic i could find...I really wish it was a bit larger...
you may have already seen it!

lost_almost 22nd-May-2006 05:20 am (UTC)
Cute!
fiercekitty 22nd-May-2006 03:16 pm (UTC)
haha I've seen that picture and it's definitely the first thing I thought of when I got this idea ;-)

OT-The one on your toe didn't hurt really? I really want one there but everyone keeps telling me it will hurt sooooo bad. I had a fairly large piece done on my lower back and it was only mildly painful to me. I really wanted one on my toes but all these ppl kept saying it would hurt so bad so I figured I would go for my back. When I picked out the one I wanted the artist was like, "Are you sure you want to get this? It's really big. You could get something small and then if it doesn't hurt you could get a cover up." I was like, "Look. I only plan on doing this once so I'm going to do it with flair. Now go!" When he got done he said, "Damn girl. I can't believe you handled that so well." Then I realized that tattoos are addictive and now I want more!
littlebluegrrl 22nd-May-2006 12:31 pm (UTC)
No, it didn't really hurt. I mean, of course there was a little bit of stinging, but nothing too bad. The bad thing is, though...tattoos on people's toes tend to fade BADLY...I guess due to the constant friction with socks or shoes. I didn't know/think about this until after I got mine..then I started talking to other people who had them and almost all of theirs had faded out pretty bad.
If you do decide to get one, make sure you go to someone who has done toes before. The guy I went to hadn't done very many of them, so he was unsure how deep to go...and part of my design ended up flaking out. My sister had the same problem with the guy she went to.
I'm considering getting mine removed...but only because it's crappy....not because I regret getting one there.
Good luck to ya.

I have a tattoo on my mons. Getting it put on was as painful as someone one a sandpaper-tipped pen scraping it against the area - obviously not pleasant, but not get-wrenching terrible, either.

However, I feel I should warn you that there are reprecussions of getting a tattoo there beyond the reprecussions of getting a tattoo anywhere else. At least, there were for me. I got mine during a very unstable time in my life. I had not yet come to terms with trauma in my past so I was seriously acting out - substance abuse, making unhealthy sexual choices, etc. My then-best friend (current boyfriend) was torn to pieces by having to watch me do this to myself. I got the tattoo on my mons because at the time I was working as an actor, and that was the one place I knew for sure would never, ever be exposed on stage. My boyfriend has big time issues with the tattoo now because 1) it came from a time thatwas very hard for him, and it is a permanent reminder of what I put myself through and 2) To quote him, "That's a part of your body that should be just for us and our sexual growth. I don't like the idea of it being ad space".

It's the Foo Fighters' FF off the There is Nothing Left to Lose album cover, and now - because of the $50 I dropped in Wisconsin that night - one of his former favorite bands makes him angry like nobody's business.

And that's my mons-tattoo horror story. Since it is very reminicent of a very bad time for me as well, I'm getting it removed. However, assuming that you and your boyfriend did not have issues dealing with traumas of your past that are going to be triggered by a tattoo, game on.
fightsactualfoo 22nd-May-2006 03:31 am (UTC)
Oh, I also should mention that the bottom of one of the Fs falls dangerously close to where my labia beging, and THAT was painful, both application and removal. Other than that, the mons is a prety fatty area, so it should't hurt a ton. Just keep it high.
fiercekitty 22nd-May-2006 03:19 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I've definitely considered the long-term repercussions of this - and I'm not going to just go out and get a tattoo. I'm pretty fickle so I'll want to think about it for another six months at least.

Thanks so much for sharing :)
naugthy_pucca 22nd-May-2006 04:10 am (UTC)
Tattoos are addictive!
Hmm I just have one. It is on my hip bone. I want to get another one but I havent decided on what.
It really didnt hurt me. I think it is because I really wanted to get it and I have a high threshold for pain ^.^ (The guy that was doing my tattoo said I was a rock lol)
I think that you have to think it over a LOT and make sure you really really want it because you don't want to regret it.
I took months in deciding if I wanted a tattoo. Then, I took forever to pick what I wanted to have and where. After I knew what I wanted, I waited 6 more months. After those months, I asked myself if I still wanted it... and I did =D
A long time ago I was cashiering and this girl came. she was wearing low riders pants and you could see she had a tattoo from her lower tummy to her mons. I could see the upper part that was in her lower tummy and I could see it was a black panther ready to attack. It was gorgeous! I would like to get one there but I don't shave, maybe someday...
good luck in anything you decide to do ^.^

That's exactly my plan! I still have no idea what I want, but when I pick something out I'll definitely put it aside and ask myself again in six months or a year.

I remember a couple of years ago I wanted to tattoo the Ravenclaw crest on my wrist. Eek. I'm so glad I didn't get that done.

I don't have any Tats but I imagine there is a similar rule to getting waxed down there, don't go near/on your period, I think it would make things more painful.

Is it possible to take a painkiller before you go? Like aspirin?
fiercekitty 22nd-May-2006 02:23 pm (UTC)
I think they say aspirin thins the blood - I used to have a tongue piercing (it migrated itself out) and I know I wasn't allowed to take aspirin before going for that.
hoodwink 22nd-May-2006 04:45 pm (UTC)
yeah, that's why I wasn't sure. but what about non-aspirin? Maybe that's what I meant...
zombie_attaackk 22nd-May-2006 05:22 pm (UTC)
i got a tattoo there....its a spider web and a spider....it felt just as any other tattoo. no more no less. every dude that has ever seen it really likes it alot.
jillette 23rd-May-2006 03:54 pm (UTC)
There really are some pretty ones available if you can get through the pain barrier esp in combination with piercings & rings. I will happily email pics to you if you give your email or MSN.
