Nexplanon Vs Depo

I'm currently on the depo shot, and just had my consultation appointment for the nexplanon. I go to have it inserted March 11. One question I failed to ask was how does it typically effect your sex drive. Since being on the shot mine has been nonexistent unfortunately. He did mention the fact that the shot is a much higher dose of hormones than the implant, so does that mean it should be better? Also I had a baby six months ago so I'm assuming that could be part of the reason. Anyhow, point being does the fact that the shot causes lower sex drive for me mean the implant will be the same?

No, your side effects (if any) on Nexplanon will not necessarily be the same as your side effects on Depo (though of course, they could be). In addition to the different doses and delivery methods, Nexplanon uses etonorgestrel, an entirely different synthetic progestin than what's in Depo Provera. Any or all of those has the potential to react differently to your individual body chemistry.

Everybody experiences each kind of hormonal birth control differently. That said, for me personally I had the most reduction in sex drive on Implanon than any combined pill or the NuvaRing. I have not tried the Depo shot specifically because my doctor said that Implanon and Depo are similar enough that if I didn't care for Implanon's negative effects on me (which were many) I most certainly would not care for Depo. I now have a non-hormonal IUD and am pleased as punch! My body is rejoicing at long last, lol.

Thank you both. I like to think that even if I do have the same side effects surely it will be to a smaller degree since its such a lower dose of hormones.

You really have to just try it out -- my sex drive has been higher since I've been on Depo (though my breasts have been sore, merrrrrr). The advantage to the implant is that it can be removed, whereas you just have to wait out Depo if it is bugging you. I hope you find a method that works well for you!
