HELP

So, I am 15 and the skin on my thigh near my vagina is purplish and my vaginal lips are grey(ish).
I was wondering if this is normal ??
I really don't want to tell my mom about it.
I am not sexually active but I have tried masturbation a few times.
I just recently noticed this discoloration (like 20 minutes ago)
Im really insicure when I wear a bathing suit because in afraid people will notice the discoloration .
Is there any way I can make it go back to normal?

Quite normal. It's common for skin in the groin region to be different colors than the skin elsewhere on the body. Purple and gray are within the realm of normal variation there.

Sounds normal to me. Every single person in the world has unique genitals.

Wait a minute...is this a change from previous or are you just now noticing a the color?
queen_aeron 13th-Jul-2012 06:35 am (UTC)
Because if this is a change from baseline then yes definitely get it checked out from a doctor. Otherwise yes this is normal variation. The skin on my thigh near it is a different color than the rest of my skin and everyone's vaginal lips are different colors. Definitely don't worry about swimsuits honey if it's hard for you to see other people shouldn't be up close to you like that.

I have never had that happen to me but it sounds very uncomfortable.. Maybe you should tell your mom so that she can take you to the doctor. If it doesent get better in about a week you should really tell your mom!!!!!!!

The OP doesn't say if this is a new occurrence, and if it's not then there's a high likelihood that it's just their natural coloring. If it's a new occurrence, then she may indeed want seek out help. However, if she doesn't want to tell her mom, then there are certainly other venues for her to pursue (school nurse, doctor, planned parenthood or other type of clinic).

People often have reasons they may not want to share here about why they don't want to tell a particular person about an issue or condition, it can be more helpful for them if replies contain alternatives instead of telling them to do what they've said they don't want to do. :)

completely COMPLETELY normal! the colour and texture of the skin in the genital area (especially the labia) are usually different to the rest of your skin. :) purpley/gray/red smooth/bumpy/mottled etc :)
I remember noticing my labia looked different all of a sudden when I was about 16, chances are you just haven't been paying much attention there so have only just noticed it :)

not at all related to masturbation/sexual activity :)

I doubt anyone will notice it, and no-one who is worth listening to will comment on it! :)

I really wouldn't worry about it, unless it becomes painful/itchy or you have any other symptoms. :)

ugh I hate this, but I have this problem too. I have darker skin and my lips are.... black.
teacupcake89 13th-Jul-2012 03:48 pm (UTC)
It isn't a 'problem' !! it's completely normal and often happens during puberty/as you get older.

If you check out the Everyday Bodies Project in the links here you'll find a huge amount of variation in appearance, colour and texture.(not safe for looking at work as the photos are frank)

thanks for the reassurance! I actually joined this communities JUST to take a look at that. I guess I'll have to become more confident and love myself :)

This sounds absolutely normal. There is so much variation in skin tone and texture on a person's body...your under-eye skin is different from your facial skin, etc. Everyone has differently-colored and -textured genitals. Unless you're experiencing swelling, itching, or strange discharge, i wouldn't worry about it at all.

Not only is this normal, it is not at all related to masturbation or sex. Don't be shy to ask your mom- she won't know you've masturbated!

What the fuck. No. It is okay right now. Nobody has to get married to have an "okay" body.
lunabelle 13th-Jul-2012 03:45 pm (UTC)
Seriously what does getting married have to do with anything?? Any why are you giving a link to a cigar website?? This is not appropriate!

Creepy as it is, I think this is some sort of spambot or something.

I agree. I've reported it.

When I went through puberty, my vulva changed in appearance. My outer lips became darker pink and my inner labia turned dark purple and also got longer. (I'm Anglo) It's perfectly normal for genital skin to be a different color than the skin on your thighs or the rest of your body. If you are feeling insecure, it might be helpful to check out photographs of other people's vulvas so you can see examples of variation. VaginaPagina has a page called the Everyday Bodies Project that is definitely not safe for work because it has explicit close-up pics of vulvas.

I have a different color skin on my upper thighs near where my legs meet my crotch. Been that way for years and years, since I was about your age. Completely normal.

I like wearing bathing suit bottoms like this: http://www.target.com/p/mossimo-womens-mix-match-boy-short-swim-bottom-black/-/A-13786826?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=Google_PLA_df&LNM=|13786826&CPNG=women&ci_sku=13786826&ci_gpa=pla&ci_kw=

I know the discoloration isn't abnormal, but it's none of anyone's business except mine and my partner.
birthingway 13th-Jul-2012 04:52 pm (UTC)
Totally normal!
wyldlittlepoet 13th-Jul-2012 10:55 pm (UTC)
Totally normal! When I was about your age, the skin around my vulva changed color as well.

My roommate is currently seeing a new girl, and the other day, she came home with a remarkable new revelation: that she could have sex with a hundred million people, and it would still be a completely new experience having sex with a new person, since there's so much variation between bodies.
fullyarmdvishnu 14th-Jul-2012 08:48 pm (UTC)
The thigh skin being purplish is probably caused by lying for a long time in one direction. The greyness may be related, but if not, is still perfectly normal.
