Pain and discomfort when masturbating?

For the past week and a half I have been experiencing a bit of pain and discomfort when I masturbate. I only do so clitorally so I don't think it is an issue with my actual vagina and it's only when I am aroused. I am 21 years old and am a virgin and that isn't likely to change in the near or distant future. I would really like to not go to the gyno because my entrance is so tight that anything beyond the size of a finger would be excruciating. So should I be worried or is there a certain amount of time that I should allow it to go away before going to the doctor?

ETA: I should be starting my period soon so could this just be a symptom?

Oh god, kind of off topic and not at all helpful but once after I shaved, I felt this sharp pain on my clit. Like, it really hurt and would not stop so I investigated and found a tiny piece of hair under the hood! Oh my god, it was so scary because hair can actually be quite sharp and if the stars align it can actually get stuck in your skin like a splinter. Anyway, I always make sure I rinse really well and that nothing is hiding. My god, it hurt.

As for OP, if this is something that really is not normal for you, perhaps you should get it looked at. Where is the pain located? On your actual clit? Could you have bruised it masturbating? I know I can certainly bruise my area there from masturbation. Even a little bruise that you can't see (or maybe just soreness) can be painful when you continue to put pressure/rub on it.
