VP Poll: Do you engage with VP off LJ?

Hi everyone. As you have probably heard us brag by now, we have a new partnership with LiveJournal. This partnership is aimed at helping VP (and LJ) to grow even stronger, all through the community continuing to be its awesome self.

One of the things that we have been working on is pumping up our use of social media sites that let us keep the VP ethos going in a less question-and-answer oriented way. You can find us on TumblrTwitter, and Facebook, but fret not, these sites will never replace VP on LJ, they're just different ways of getting involved in the community, and engaging in discussions that might be off-topic for VP on LJ.

To that end, we'd like to hear some more about what you are interested in seeing in VP social media. We'd appreciate it if you'd take this short poll to let us know how you use (or don't use) VP-off-LJ, and what kinds of things you'd like to see us talking about.

As always, we'd love to hear more from you in the comments. Thanks!

I have a vagina and enjoy reading about what others are saying. I try to lend a hand if I can but usually someone answers before.
I think it is good to have a community where people can discuss different sorts of birth control to other vagina and health related issues such as child birth. STIs, homeopathic remedies.

Fun facts are good too. I grabbed this from 15 crazy things about the vagina
"So if you lose something in there, don't worry. Reach in all the way and pull it out. Do not -- I repeat, do not -- go hunting for whatever you've lost with a pair of pliers. Think of your vagina as being like a sock. If you lose a banana in a sock...it stays in the sock."

I found it so necessary to read woman's oppression and struggle through the recent story of forced pregnancy. I am also very interested in woman's right and the current struggles woman face over birth control and other corporal issues. I am not sure if that should be a separate site altogether. I just think that Vagina Pagina should stay away from other legislative news and other laws being pushed/passed.

I think these issues need to be talked about and discussed but I think that should remain on another page as well. It would be cool if VP could serve as a hub to reach other sites about woman and woman health. I guess I am saying let's just stick to the vagina :D

Other than that I try and abstain from the internet. I only check FB so often and then really only want to play scrabble. LOL I do not want twitter or anything like that. I bet if I had twitter and the stuff to make it happen I might like posts from VP though. It would also be super handy if I needed a question answered.

It's possible to have Twitter and tumblr feeds on RSS. I don't use either, but I like a few feeds so I just RSSed them so I don't need to make an account to keep up with them. You can't really give any input, but if you're only there for the information, it's a nice compromise.
also_warriors Where I ramble vaguely about politcs...13th-Apr-2012 02:22 am (UTC)
I was pretty late to the Tumblr game but now I cannot get enough (hence VP on Tumblr). I definitely get what people are saying about wanting to keep VP as is, and to keep it in a space that is familiar.

The whole matter of keeping politics out of VP is an interesting quagmire for me. My thoughts are, EVERYTHING is political, and if we don't acknowledge that, aren't we normalizing certain kinds of politics? does that mean forgetting or taking for granted the [political] work that came before to get us here?

At the same time, there are some types of debates that just seem to go hand-in-hand with really charged and, ultimately, not terribly helpful exchanges, hurt feelings, etc. My personal concern in a lot of my life is how do we make spaces for other people's experiences and the ways in which those experiences shape their outlook, while we try to build new systems. While I don't want to see a lot of overtly political posts in VP proper, I'm interested in the everyday politics at play in popular culture.

(PS: I just came from 6 hours of class, so it's possible I'm not making a ton of sense anymore.)
