This spotting needs to stop NOW!!!

I have a Mirena IUD and have some brown spotting ever few months. I haven't had sex in quite some time, so it never bugs me. But this weekend a guy I REALLLLY like is coming up and we've had some talks about sleeping together, and now what's happened? I have brown spotting. He comes up on Friday. I'm looking for ANNNYYY way you loves can think of to stop this. It's not much at this point, so I'm hoping it stays this way. I think it started becuase I used some Monistat least week for a YI.

Anyway, this needs to go away! Anything?!?!

I read an entry on this community not so long ago about period sex and using sea sponges which might help...but I can't find it! It sounded like it would work (I had the same issue but due to an implant but thankfully it went away before the gentleman in question and I had some alone time).

I hope someone can give you more info than that but there are ways to handle this. Have fun!

How long have you had your IUD? Could this be settling-in (expect it to last up to a year) or is the spotting your period now?

Checking out the bleeding tag on iud_divas will garner a bunch of posts with discussions of how to deal with spotting. Look especially for discussions of ibuprofen regimens, vitamin E or yarrow. This is one of the faq posts that should be helpful.

And yeah, I've heard really great things about sea sponges to deal with sex and bleeding (or poky strings). Apparently they blend into your vaginal walls and aren't really noticeable.

I neverrrr get a period with my IUD. It's almost been a year. But I think the Monistat started some spotting. I'll definitely look into ibuprofen and stuff. You're the best!!

I had the depo shot, and had brown spotting for some time. Actually, all my periods since then have been brown. I'm pretty sure it's just because you're storing less blood? Not sure, I'm not a doctor. But the doctor told me to take the pill for five days, and the spotting usually stopped.
