BV/Boric Acid/Sex and Oral

Hi everyone.

Today I bought some Boric Acid and Capsules to treat a case of BV. However, after purchasing everything, I realized there was only one thing I didn't research. How long should I abstain from having sex with my boyfriend? And how long should my boyfriend stay away from going down on me?

I really wish I would have thought about this beforehand because oral/sex is a huge factor in my relationship and I would have prepared my boyfriend a lot more.

Either way, thanks for the help!

It's best to avoid vaginal activity until you are clear of your infection as it can aggravate the condition.

The worry about abstaining from sex during a YI is to make sure the infection is completely gone (as fluids and abrasion appear to re-trigger the infection sometimes) and the irritated tissues are fully healed for comfort's sake. It's generally recommended to abstain at least until all the symptoms are gone.

BA is actually pretty mild. It's used as an insecticide but its toxicity to humans is quite low even when ingested (this page is out of date but agrees with what I've read elsewhere: http://npic.orst.edu/factsheets/boricgen.pdf). If you keep treating yourself with BA after the yeast appears to be gone (as is often recommended), I doubt oral sex would be a danger to your boyfriend - it's easy to use overnight, so maybe put in a capsule before sleep and clean up any drips before oral? Unless your boyfriend is consuming large amounts of the powder he should be okay! I'm pretty sure I've had oral while using BA (post infection) and no issues occurred.

My understanding is that part of the concern is passing infections backwards and forwards between partners, which is obviously something that is good to avoid! I'm not sure how this applies to BV, though, and it sounds as though other commenters have given you good advice.

Would you please change your post so you don't call us "ladies", though? Not all of us in this community are female. "People" or "superstars" (!) are good alternatives. :-)

Just popped back to check how you were doing with getting advice - I'd like to thank you for having changed your language. It makes VP a much more comfortable space for quite a few of us. :-)

of course! I don't want to offend anyone.

I use BA as routine to keep BV at bay. I've never had an issue...BF has never complained of burning etc and I make sure to rinse my vag if I'm assuming oral is part of the equation just in case, but only to clear out any residual powder remnants. But I think you're fine :)

Please do not use the term ladies, some people find it offensive
