My period ended a week ago. Now I'm bleeding again.

Okay, so I had my period last week which seemed pretty regular (expect for some reason it didn't start out with brown blood like my periods normally do but a pink that eventually got heavier and red). I got cramps, sore breasts and mood swings like I always do when it happens.

Last night I noticed I was bleeding brownish blood and it is a little heavier this morning. I do not feel physically like I am on my period.

I would like to point out that I had unprotected sex last Saturday. And a couple times last month. Could I be pregnant? Or have I experienced an early miscarriage?

**Also, I am not on hormonal birth control.

By unprotected, do you mean completely unprotected or are you on any form of HBC? I ask because a lot of people consider condomless sex as "unprotected".

It's possible your cycle got a bit wonky thanks to the sex.

I am not on birth control and haven't been for over a year. My period last week landed exactly on the date it was supposed to. I've always been pretty regular.

Thanks for answering that question haha.

I don't honestly know, I've been on HBC for five years, and I'm 20 so I never really got to have "regular" periods (before that I was going through diabetes and all sorts of other stuff.)

Since I had decidual bleeding when I was pregnant, I would think it'd be worth grabbing a Dollar Tree Store test. Peeonastick.com likes them, and they're inexpensive.

If that says "no," then it could be a chemical pregnancy/very-early-miscarriage, it could be ovulation bleeding, it could be that you had an anovulatory cycle and your body said, "Yeah, eff this and let's just start the cycle over."

If it says "yes" then I recommend consulting a doctor. It could still be an early miscarriage, but it could also be decidual bleeding, and you'll want to arrange for appropriate medical care. (E.g., if you'd continue a pregnancy, pre-natal care; a routine checkup probably saved my and my daughter's lives. If you'd terminate a pregnancy, then knowing earlier is better than later.)

Beth, as usual, has said everything I would've said. :) Might be worth taking a test to see what's going on.

There is such a thing as an anovulatory cycle -- basically, the hormones make the run-up to ovulation, don't quite get there, and slump down again. The rise-and-fall of the hormones tells the uterus to bleed, and one gets a period. I once had three of these in a row, following a normal period -- so 4 periods in about 2 months. I was unamused. If it'd happened again, I'd have gone to the doctor, but my next period was normal, so I didn't.

Another possibility is ovulation bleeding. The ovary develops, basically, a "bubble" around the egg it's planning to release. (This is over-simplified, but the details aren't as important.) In most cases, this bubble bursts to release the egg without any issues, but sometimes a blood vessel is in the bubble and also breaks, causing bleeding that can make it down to the uterus. If you don't have horrible cramping and/or mysterious fatigue or other signs of internal bleeding, this is about the equivalent of a scrape. (And combining with the normal fluids inside the body... a small amount of blood can seem like a lot more.) So that could be ovulation blood.

Also, some people bleed a little when a blastocyst implants into the uterine lining! (Which is, obviously, full of blood vessels.) That's implantation bleeding, which means there might be a pregnancy that just hasn't produced enough hCG to become detectable.

And finally, it might just be that the sex in question was rough enough to jostle your uterus, which spat out some blood -- or bumped your cervix enough to cause bleeding. (Some cervixes are easily bruised-to-bleeding.)

If you are bleeding from your urethra (where the urine comes out), and not from your vagina, please go to the doctor right away! That could indicate a kidney infection, which is potentially life-threatening.

I hope that's useful!

one of the symptoms of pregnancy is bleeding outside of your normal period time (referred to as implantation bleeding). basically when the fertilized egg embeds into the lining of the uterus, it causes some spotting, and is usually darker in color (ie: brown).

THAT SAID, given that you had your period last week, pregnancy and implantation bleeding should be virtually impossible. you generally dont ovulate until about two weeks after your period starts, and it would take some time after that before the egg implanted.

probably just a wonky period, but if you really want to put your mind at ease, pee on a stick :)

Im pretty new at this and I was reading your post. I too had this issue. The only difference is... I had sex and when he was finished we noticed the condom was broken a little, so the next day I got the morning after pill because I'm not on birth control. So a week and a half later, I started my period again. Mind you a couple of days before inter course I had ended my regular and normal period. So I'm not sure what to think.

I have recently had the same thing
I had my period and then spent a week with everything back to normal then bang on 7 days later I saw some blood when I wiped. To start with it was very pale and only appeared the once and then I didn't see it again. The next day I saw it again although this time it didnt just appear the once but again it looked pale and was kinda watery even my partner thought it was a bit odd the day after that I still had bleeding, it's not bad but its enough that I've used a small liner to catch it and this time it looks a bit darker but still not my usual period colour and is also still quite thin and watery. I'm quite concerned as my partner and I have been trying for a baby for a little while now. When I looked it up I saw quite a few different reasons behind this and I enitially thought it was light spotting like an ovulation spotting but its been 3 days and its gotten progressively darker but its flow is practically non existent. I see a bit in the liner but the most appears when I wipe.
I have arranged to go to the doctors in a day or so as I want to see what happens.
I haven't taken a PT yet as according to some I've read it's too soon to get a valid reading. Does anyone have any idea what this may be? I've run it past a couple if people I know but they don't seem to know what it is.
This is the first time this has happened and I am not experiencing my usual period symptoms. There's no cramping, I don't feel tired and emotional. The only thing I can think as being a bit different recently is I've gone off a couple of foods but I don't know if its related or if its just coincidence. Any help would be good

I'm 19 and not on and never have been on any form of birth control by the way

I'm experiencing the same thing.

I came off my period on the 11th May and have come back on today 22nd may. My period are ALWAYS regular and this is the first time it's ever happened. I use the pill regularly.
I've noticed for the last few days a pain in my left side (sort of like a sharp but quick pain) airs around where my left ovary is. If anyone could give me some guidance it would be amazing as I'm a bit worried because this has never happened before.

Thank you! 😊
