Natural lubes (ie coconut oil)...

This isn't the first time I have posted about using coconut oil as lube! First of all, I love the stuff...it has worked wonders for me and my enjoyment of sex, etc. But my man doesn't seem to like the smell. He says when we "get going really fast it kinda smells like burnt coconut..." I think he is more used to the sweet smelling coconut we have in candies and sun lotions and such. I am a huge fan as I like the smell, the texture, and the benefits for my private areas that it has, but he wants to try something else.

For those of you who do not use "synthetic" or chemical lubes, what do you use? Are there any synthetic lubes that don't burn/smell bad/clump up, etc? I am really weary of anything that isn't all natural because it not only has hurt me in the past, but really taken away from the experience/my enjoyment of the entire act of sex. What do you all prefer, synthetic or non-synthetic? I guess I'm trying to find something as close to all "natural" as possible.

Thanks for any suggestions! <3

I have no idea, I'm sorry, hopefully people will be more helpful!

Just want to say I'd never thought of coconut oil but it sounds like a great idea (I love coconut anything). You can't use it during intercourse when a condom is involved though, as it's oil-based, otherwise it sounds wonderful and I'll make sure to try it! :)

Never?! Haha it's amazing. And it's true, you can't use it if there's a condom involved but otherwise it is awesome. I definitely recommend it. I like the smell of coconut, too, but like I said this stuff doesn't smell like the typical sugary coconut stuff many people are used to...I still like it, but my man does not! So on to a compromise we go :P

My current boyfriend and I just use spit, but I've used Kama Sutra products in the past and they've been absolutely wonderful.

I`ll second this. I haven`t tried their lubes, but I`ve used most of their other products and everything has been amazing.

I also prefer non-synthetic lubes. I use coconut oil most regularly, but in the past I've used grapeseed oil, and it worked well. It smells pretty neutral, too.

What kind of coconut oil do you have? I have pure organic extra virgin raw coconut oil and it smells freaking amazing to me, during sex or otherwise.
paraxeni 13th-Sep-2010 04:22 pm (UTC)
The smell of it makes me ravenous. My partner was all dry and itchy last night, so I was rubbing the oil on her back and it made me feel like eating everything I could get my hands on!

It's pure organic extra-virgin raw...It smells amazing to me, as well, but my guy doesn't like it at all, sex or no. He just thinks it smells extra weird during sex haha.
misspaigeb 13th-Sep-2010 05:41 pm (UTC)
Well maybe you could try the non-organic/raw kind? It's usually cheapter and I have heard it doesn't smell like anything.
allysonrigby 13th-Sep-2010 07:30 pm (UTC)
is raw the same as cold pressed?
If not try the cold pressed kind, like Nutiva makes.

Nutiva is what I have :P

Olive, almond, and as someone else posted grapeseed are also good natural alternatives. (Unless allergies come in to play of course!)

refinement level matters with coconut oil and smell.
A slightly more processed product will not smell nearly as strongly; the small amount of extra heat breaks up a lot of those more volatile aromatic compounds.
I know that Spectrum oils make coconut in at least three refinements.

This wouold be good:

It's refined coconut oil, and it has all of the benefits, but it doesn't smell like much of anything. I use it in my natural deodorant. =)

Thanks!!! :)

If you get slightly more processed coconut oil it doesn't smell like anything. I have the cheapest kind from the local health food store - "Aunt Patty's Organic Coconut Oil". I think the smell is strongest in cold pressed/extra virgin oils.

I use Sliquid Organics, which is synthetic but paraben and glycerin free. We really like it, but I'm interested in oil lubes too. Is coconut the only one that's solid at room T? This is an interesting post!
may_third 14th-Sep-2010 09:01 pm (UTC)
Yes, coconut oil is the only one that is solid at room temp. It melts at 76 degrees F. It's really cool! Mine is always half way between solid and liquid because of the temperature my room always happens to be at which is how I like it :P I love oil lubes...Coconut oil is great and I don't want to stop using it because it has a lot of health benefits and is anti-fungal and can be used as a moisturizer. It just sinks into your skin...it's so nice. By the time the act is over there's nothing to wipe off :P I love it...and am gonna look into the cheaper kind that doesn't smell as much because I don't want to stop using it haha.
mirmarmelade 14th-Sep-2010 04:35 pm (UTC)
What about almond oil? It has a bit of a smell but not as strong as coconut, in my experience.
may_third 14th-Sep-2010 09:02 pm (UTC)
Definitely worth a try :) Oil is my favorite to use as lube because when my significant other and I are done there's usually nothing to wipe off because it's all absorbed into our skin. It's so nice *sigh* I hope we find something oil-y that he likes better than the coconut oil.
