Nightmares + Periods

Do you find that you often have bad dreams around your menstrual cycle? I just woke up at 6am due to a nightmare, and oh-lookie-there! I started my period.

Hahaha, that's not lame! I get excited when I recognize internet peoples too :D

Not often, but it was that way the first time I started my period. (Bled all over my Strawberry Shortcake sleeping bag. Which, since I'd always hated that bag, wasn't more than a minor nuisance.)

At least it was color coordinated! :P

Till it dried all dark brown! *snicker*

Yes, the week before my period I usually don't sleep well and have really weird and horrible dreams.
thedastardfunk 22nd-Jul-2009 12:04 pm (UTC)
Yeah, my dream was really weird and scary, but not terrifying, just really strange...

I wouldn't call the nightmares but I do have very VIOLENT dreams in which I'm physically fighting or otherwise acting out in anger/rage -- and very often the victim is my mother! (I'm shoving those skeletons back into their closet now.)

Now that I'm past f-f-f-fifty (when the heck did I get this old?) disturbing dreams accompany hot flashes/night sweats no matter what point of my cycle.

"... disturbing dreams accompany hot flashes/night sweats no matter what point of my cycle."

Me too! I am 48.
I would have to add: have to pee as well.

I don't "have to" go pee but I usually do -- just to distract myself and clear away the lingering thoughts in my head. If I stay in bed, I tend to dwell on them. The trip to the bathroom (and sometimes into the other room to pet the cat) clears my thoughts and then I'm able to fall back to sleep when I get back to bed. It also cools me off. I find that hot flashes and night sweats come in clusters. If I have one, then I'll have one during the next few nights too. Taking a soy tablet before bed for a few nights helps a lot.

One woke me up last night, and I'm due to start my period today or tomorrow, most likely.

If I wasn't continuously taking the pill, I would have my period right now...and even though there is no drop in hormones, or at least there shouldn't be, I've convinced myself that pms craziness gives me really screwed up and sometimes perverted dreams. Last night for example I had an awful dream about getting a pelvic exam (which I haven't done yet as I'm only 19 and my doctor tells me to wait 'till I'm 21) and then hugging my doctor, and then having her tell me that I had some freakish form of LEUKEMIA and thennn I made out with my ex-boyfriend's best friend in front of his face :(((((( and then! And then, a huge fight ensued...And then I got hospitalized for being crazy and I was crying hysterically aaaaaand then I saw a male family member masturbate in front of me. It. Was. Awful. x_x sorry for that rant, but I don't think you're alone!

Not nightmares, no, but I have a dream where I'll get my period in my dream and then when I wake up and go to the bathroom my period started. It's pretty nifty hahaha

Lucky!

Sometimes because of the cramping, I dream I'm being squeezed really tight or stabbed in the gut. Something along those lines.

I never would have remembered this, but yes! My withdrawal bleed began yesterday, and I definitely woke up having a nightmare to find that I'd started. Weird! I'm not sure it's happened before since I'm not really one for remembering my waking life let alone my dreams, but I can say yes this once.

No nightmares, but one or two days before my period, I'd have really vivid sex dreams.
siz_t 22nd-Jul-2009 07:44 pm (UTC)
Oh, definitely - and they were positively trippy at the beginning of last month when I started taking HBC :P

Actually, I wouldn't say they were bad for me. More just, weird.

This is funny to me because I woke up a knotty mess this morning after having a ton of bad dreams, and I'm on my period. Now I'm curious if it's just a coincidence; I hadn't made the connection before. I wonder if this happens more to people with heavy/painful periods.. wouldn't be surprised if it's leftover from my teenage years of arming myself with a super plus tampon and super plus pad and still waking up in a puddle of blood.

What's also interesting is the dreams you have around ovulation. Usually they involve the "manly" men. Or am I the only one with this issue? I read somewhere that around ovulation you tend to go for the strong masculine types.

absolutely! I get them often on the first day of my period and they're usually way intense. I've had that exact experience so many times.

Interesting! My sleep patterns are so royally screwed up I never bothered to notice if anything about them was related to my cycle. As to dreams, vivid dreams, vivid weird dreams, and horrible gut wrenching nightmares, I have those all the time no matter what my lady parts are doing... my brain, much like the rest of me, doesn't care to shut up. ^_^

The week before my period, yes. But if it starts during the night, I won't have a nightmare but I'll wake up exactly as it starts - it's kinda neat; I haven't stained the sheets in years! ;)
