Extremely sick before period? And acne.

This whole week, I've been feeling really really ill. I'd wake up with headaches and stomachaches and basically did nothing for 3 days. Then my period came and I was very surprised since it was a week early.

Is this sickness normal? I've never really felt this way. My periods are normally totally easy.

And acne. It always seems I get really painful acne the week before my period. I visited a dermatologist who recommended Vitamin B6 every day the week before my period starts. I can't tell if it helps. I was wondering if anyone knew of any other treatments for those painful huge pimples. I never really want to go on HBC, but this week has been so painful in my face regions that if HBC would make it stop, I'd do it right now for forever.

It's normal for me, only add mood swings out the wazoo. I've been stacking my bcp for 6m because of it.

Ugh, I dunno if it's normal or not but I feel like I have the flu or something about a week before my period starts. I have an IUD but still get a period, I no longer get cramps but I still get the aching body that feels like I have a fever only no fever is present.

Aleve works pretty good for me though. ♥

That is something I haven't tried, but I do rinse my hair with apple cider vinegar.

There's also the potential that because you're sick, your period came early. I hope you're feeling better now!

I'm taking a B-complex (above and beyond my multivitamin) every 4-5 days out of the week, and that seems to help reduce the frequency and severity of my PMS depression -- but I haven't noticed it having much effect on my physical PMS symptoms (sore breasts). I don't get PMS-acne much if at all, so I can't tell about that. But it might be worth trying a B-complex for a couple months and see if it helps in general?

I get those kinds of pimples, they're like tiny cysts. I take a daily anti-biotic for them and it works pretty well. The only problem is that I get yeast infections from the anti-biotic. I think an anti-biotic would help with your acne but I think an HBC would help with your acne AND your period sickness.

I've gotten an early period from being sick before, so unless it happens every month, the causation might go the other way (i.e. the sickness made your period early, not the sickness is a form of PMS). I also have a nasty case of cystic acne and I'm in the same boat as you (not so interested in HBC due to a long history of migraines with aura that's only been "under control" for about a year), so I'm interested in reading more replies.

I've always experienced sickness delaying a period, not causing it, but I guess there is a first time for everything.

Yeah, cystic acne is the worst. There's about 5 spots on my face that are physically painful right now, not to mention hard to cover with makeup.

Before I went on the pill, my period was making me very nauseous and causing horrible pains in my entire abdomen. I wanted to die. Then I went on the pill and everything was okay. I went from bleeding to death and bedridden for three days to "oh look I'm bleeding."

I have cystic acne and let me tell you, it's bullshit. I had to take very strong anti-biotics and use Differin gel just to reduce the occurrence of the very painful cystic zits. I don't get the deep set ones nearly as much as I used to, but I still break out. I've had this for years and it's not related to BC. :/

I found this in the comment section of iud_divas tonight, and just wanted to post it here so others could find it:

"I have a wonderful nutritionist who told me that Licorice Root extract and Saw Palmetto do wonders. I've been taking Licorice Root for 6 months, and the number of cystic pimples has decreased 90%. You HAVE to get it with a 16% makeup of glycyrrhizin."

She was told twice a day at dinner and breakfast.

I've been using apple cider vinegar (not organic as far as I know, which is what people seem to recommend) for nearly a week now. My skin feels much softer than it did, but it too early to tell if it will help with pre-period breakouts. I did use a little on a cotton ball to bring a blind pimple to a head so i could get rid of it (it was in my ear, which was weird and painful as hell) and it worked really well for that.
