Alcohol delaying period?

Anyone know if excessive alcohol consumption could delay your period? I would assume a nasty hangover could be equivalent to a sickness and could similarly disrupt your body's natural cycle. Thoughts?

I don't think it delays it at all

All I know is that some hbc can change the effect of alcohol on your body. Of course, every woman has her own reaction to hbc, but some experience a lower toleration. For me, nuvaring makes me become intoxicated easily. I always joke that I'm a very cheap drunk, it only takes two drinks ;) If I really drink way too much, I start spotting the next day. I believe it has something to do with my body breaking off the alcohol and not being able to absorb enough hormones from my ring, or something like that.

Alcolhol actually delaying your period would take an immense and continuous intake of alcohol. In other words, alcoholism may have that effect on your body.

I'm sure others will react to your post and will be able to give you a more sceintific explanation for it.

I don't really see how it would, but I know that HBC can affect how alcohol affects your body (and caffeine as well, actually).

Being sick and having a hangover are two different things in the way they affect your body. Being sick involves a virus or bacteria, and the subsequent attack on the virus/bacteria by your immune system. A hangover is caused either by dehydration or your body no longer being able to metabolize the amount of alcohol you drank. I guess it would be theoretically possible for dehydration to delay your period, but you would have to be dehydrated for a lot longer than one night. I don't know, but I have the feeling that a hangover is probably not super-likely to delay a period.

If you shock your system before ovulation, it can delay ovulation. But, the drinking/hang over would have to have happened 2 weeks or more before your missed period as that's about when you would have ovulated and your body would have decided it wasn't a good time. Once you've ovulated, there isn't much that can delay a period, even having the flu or other virus.
