Is bush back?

I have seen a few articles out there about how pubic hair is making a comeback.   Ever since my husband and I started dating about 10 years ago I have kept it really close and basically a brazilian style.  He never asked me to shave and I guess this just became the norm for a long time.  I liked it shaved but it was a headache to maintain.  However, my husband was recently away on an excursion where we didn't see each other for 10 weeks (it sucked trust me!) and I decided to stop shaving while he was gone.  Just before he came back, I shaped my what had become a fairly big triangle bush a little so it looked 'taken care of' and surprised him.  I was shocked to find out he thinks it looks extremely sexy!!!!   In fact he says he absolutely loves looking down at my bikini area when we are making love as it really gets him going seeing this new bush look.  This got me thinking.  I guess it had become a norm amongst many of us twenty-some women that you just shaved.  However, back in the 70s and before that, most dirty magazines had women with full on bushes in them, so obviously this was and still is a turn-on for men.  Just funny how the 'styles' come back.  I'm curious as to what others think and if there are more women out there actually starting to keep more pubic hair?

i go through phases, but most of the time i just trim a little bit. i find it sexier on myself, and my boyfriend likes it more too. plus, shaving and getting waxed is such a pain in the ass, lol.

and costly!

I read an article the other day about how the lower the US economy goes, the more public hair women have. The better our economy, the barer we are. I'll have to try to find that article.
_96 17th-Dec-2008 07:56 pm (UTC)
oh my ))
they should teach that in economics course!

i think... it's just more natural and men, well all of us, tend to still have our instinctual attractions. i don't know. i think having a bush is more attractive because of that. just like how magazines tell you not to slather on deodorant before you have sex because men are keen on our natural smells.
lonelygodess 17th-Dec-2008 07:54 pm (UTC)
I just stopped shaving because I got lazy and fed-up. =D This includes my legs, but they bother me, so I'm shaving those again. We'll see about the bush (got a safety razor for my birthday!).

I am puzzled.

Isn't it part of this community's purpose to debunk the sexist, womanhating idea that women's bodies and especially our reproductive organs and bits are inherently gross in their natural state, so we have to "fix" them in order to make them ok?

So I guess my short answer to your question is: my pubic hair is not only back, it never went anywhere to begin with.
kismety 17th-Dec-2008 08:13 pm (UTC)
I don't think anyone is saying it's gross in the natural state. I don't shave, but I don't think women are bad feminists if they do!
tehfanglyfish 17th-Dec-2008 07:59 pm (UTC)
I just stopped shaving pubic hair and went to trimming because of ingrown hairs (it hurt to stand in the shower - yikes!) I switch back and forth between bare and trimmed. (Variety is good.) I have entirely too much hair to let it completely grow out.
kimie_catclaw 17th-Dec-2008 08:02 pm (UTC)
I'm also pretty lazy about shaving. I'm fairly hairy, so I shave the hairs that grow on my thighs (so it doesn't show when I'm wearing basic bikini-cut underpants), and occasionally trim, but mostly I've got a triangle. I've never waxed or sported a landing strip. When I was first with my husband I was a lot more careful about getting rid of 'gross' hair, but by the time we were living together I sorta stopped caring. XD

'70s and '80s porn has a LOT of hair, on men and women. Now it seems like everyone in porn is perfectly waxed all over, which I'm definitely NOT, haha.

Looks have very little to do with it either way for myself and my husband; we both shave because neither of us likes getting hair in our mouths.
paraxeni 17th-Dec-2008 08:27 pm (UTC)
It's funny because my gf has the most amazing full bush and in 4 years (and a lot of time spent with my face buried in her cunt) I've never had the hair in mouth problem, unless it was my head hair getting in my face!

Maybe I'm just super lucky :D
analogwatch 17th-Dec-2008 08:08 pm (UTC)
I'm growing the bush back out because my fiance asked me to. I don't mind, I don't have to try to wrestle with the razor and he gets that bushy hairy look he likes. :)
poppleshatesyou 17th-Dec-2008 08:15 pm (UTC)
I'm a trimmer here, shaving is just not my gig and waxing just looks downright painful to me. Just do whatever you find most comfortable. The amount of pubic hair someone has or doesn't have is not up for popular debate to me. Whether its "in fashion" or not just seems so silly to me. :)And for what its worth, i've never had a lover complain about the amount of pubic hair i did or did not have.

Personally, I've never cared about trendy bush\bareness =) I started shaving at 13, I think, needless to say I wasn't much into porn at those times xD I just didn't like the feeling down there, especially when on my period and using pads.
However, most of my friends shave their labia and anus area only, letting mons do it's own thing.

But I'm from Europe, so what do I know ;D

lil_goldielocks 17th-Dec-2008 08:25 pm (UTC)
to be honest i always hated having hair down there. for me personally, i think the only place there should be hair is on the head.

i started puberty at 11 and first sign of hair i shaved right off. i don't like the way it feels with hair, and especially since that time i was scarred by seeing my mom naked one time and she actually has a bush, and i was like WHATS THAT?!

i didn't think it was pretty or anything, so needless to say whenever hair comes, i get rid of it.

and i love being bare down there.
retrospection_ 17th-Dec-2008 09:41 pm (UTC)
omg, THIS. The first time I saw my mother naked I was like OMG... there is something dead on her vagina!

And I think that moment has shaped me to not like having too much bush.
exsplusohs 17th-Dec-2008 08:30 pm (UTC)
I am 100% hairy. Hairy legs, hairy pits and a hairy bush. And my boyfriend LOVES it. I think it actually works out, because he has a full beard, so I need some hair to protect my ladybits when he's down there!
paraxeni 17th-Dec-2008 08:34 pm (UTC)
I recently shaved my legs and pits to go to a posh spa hotel for my birthday, and I feel so nude and cold. I can't wait for my fuzz to grow back, our heating bill will bankrupt us if it doesn't!
paraxeni 17th-Dec-2008 08:31 pm (UTC)
I would love a massive, 70s style bush. Sadly mine's too sparse. My girlfriend is a natural redhead and has the most amazing pubic coiffure. She used to keep it shaved, but lets it grow out because I hated getting stubble rash all over my face, and actually being teased about it at work, it was that noticeable!

She seems to get fewer infections, and no longer gets horrible golfball sized infected ingrowns either.

Hurrah for bushy girls!
oh_loverrr 17th-Dec-2008 08:38 pm (UTC)
i'm a combo. i love being shaggy on my mound -- seeing my pubes makes me feel womanly. but for hygiene, i like to keep as trim as possible on my labia and around my vag, just because i tend to discharge a quite a bit throughout the day.

similarly, i love seeing hair on my husband because it's just MANLY. but he likes shaving everything, which i hate because it makes him seem like a 15 year old.
striketheband 17th-Dec-2008 09:24 pm (UTC)
I like to be clean shaven down there, and I know my boyfriend likes it too. But like oh_loverrr, I like him having hair. I just don't like hair on ME, I shave my pits everyday and legs/genital area a couple of times a week.
nobodynomore 17th-Dec-2008 09:36 pm (UTC)
I keep it trimmed, and my boyfriend loves me having it (something about diggin' on red heads, and a red head just isn't complete without fire ;). It's just personal preference. And despite a lot of women axing it, I wouldn't say that it ever went away :)
tealight_rookie 17th-Dec-2008 10:17 pm (UTC)
I used to have regular Brazilians. Loved them. But over the last five years or so I've gradually been reverting back to my natural state. And I'm pretty damn happy with that, too.
lysandrea 17th-Dec-2008 10:50 pm (UTC)
I used to shave all the time, but then after I had my son I realized I didn't really like it. I keep it neat now and trim about once a week, and I'll shave the hairs that poke outside my "bikini zone". It's so much easier to maintain!
withevrylite 17th-Dec-2008 10:55 pm (UTC)
My pubes never went anywhere, nor did I ever feel that they needed to. The suggestion that pubes are "gross" is really offensive (not that you suggested that, but others have). Pubic hair is natural.
mud_faerie 17th-Dec-2008 10:59 pm (UTC)
I wasn't really aware there was a trend or expectation to shave/wax!!! I go through short periods of shaving it all off, I couldn't tell you why. Most of the time I have a bush but it's trimmed - I always trim just before my period as I feel gross otherwise.
I remember my ex once told me he'd go down on me more if I went bare, which I did for a while but I'm just too lazy to keep up with it!
I like seeing a big old bush, I think it's womanly and sexy.
sonarafaey 17th-Dec-2008 11:09 pm (UTC)
I've never been one to get rid of my pubic hair. I dunno, I just never had a reason to get rid of it in the first place. My body naturally grows very little body hair to begin with (I have to pencil in my eyebrows). I already look trimmed and neat down there, so waxing or shaving just seemed like an unnecessary use of my time. Also, it's not like a lot of other people are going to catch a glimpse of my pubic hair anyway. For me, it's not about what is "in", but about what I am comfortable with.
llama_friendly 18th-Dec-2008 12:00 am (UTC)
I am far too lazy to shave my pubes! Right now I have a pregnant belly so big I'd have to get a whole lot of help. Even before the belly I wasn't too keen on shaving or waxing. I tried a few times and it just took too damn long and left me in pain. I might trim a bit as it gets tangled but as far as what's in, oh well. I've never been that cool anyway.
unripe 18th-Dec-2008 12:25 am (UTC)
I had a brazilian (does it have one L or two?) recently, about a month ago, purely out of curiousity because I'd never been waxed before. Hurt a little, but fine whatever - but I HATE the way it looked. Shouldn't be surprised really - I've always liked the look of pubic hair and armpit hair. But I properly freaked myself out and am now waiting for it all to grow back. But, seeing as I swim most days, I'll probably keep waxing my bikini line because I don't really feel that comfortable bursting out of my bathers. But pubic hair is lovely!
buzzboomsplat 18th-Dec-2008 04:45 am (UTC)
I also like the look of pubic hair and armpit hair but it's getting hot here and I get self-conscious that I smell, so the pits get trimmed occasionally.
frolicnaked 18th-Dec-2008 01:40 am (UTC)
I'm curious as to what others think and if there are more women out there actually starting to keep more pubic hair?

I'm curious as to how they determine whether this is a trend. Is there some pollster whose job it is to phone people and ask... or walk up to them in some sort of public sector somewhere? ;)
hiriel1804 18th-Dec-2008 03:50 pm (UTC)
Hah, I want that job ;)
