parsley tea/inducing periods

Okay, sorry for the stupid question, but I've had about ten gallons (okay, not really, but a LOT) of parsley tea. I've made it three times, with enormous amounts of parsley. Nothing has happened! How frustrating. I guess it doesn't work for everyone? Is there any way I might be doing it wrong?

Also, I took about 5-7 500mg Vitamin C pills today (spaced out, of course), as per the alternate instructions to induce periods - I just read somewhere that it gives you diarrhea. Does it really? :( :(

Edit: Thanks for all the helpful comments, guys. :) I really appreciate it. FYI, I had really painful diarrhea this evening. probably brought on by the Vitamin C. So if you're thinking about taking a lot of it to induce your period, think about this first!

I'm not sure about the vitamin C. For me, I had to drink the parsley tea for 3 days before it induced my period so maybe it just takes you a little longer too:)

To the best of my knowledge, parsley tea is only used to induce a MISSING period (i.e., when you have missed 2+ periods). I don't know the exact mechanical workings of it, but it's piqued my interest!

Yes. Excessive Vitamin C consumption gives you diarrhea. Simply put, it is one of the few vitamins where your body will pass it through the digestive system when it has had enough.

Oh man... I wish there'd been some warning attached to the Vitamin C suggestions. I really don't need diarrhea right now... argh. And now I'll just be sitting here waiting for it to arrive. I can't even really remember how many I've taken (though I took no more after posting this).

Thanks for the info! Okay, I'm giving up on trying to induce my period. It's just given me way too much trouble, and no period...

I tried this method to bring my period on early to get it out of the way of finals, and it didn't work at all for me - endless parsley tea, I think I took about 3 Vit C pills a day for about 3 days, and nada, it came when it pleased.

I think perhaps it is just a bit hit and miss as a method!

Thanks! I HATE having my period during finals, too. Haha.

BTW, I went to your journal on a whim and saw you go to Oxford. I'm going there for a semester starting September, on an exchange program from my university! So excited :)

ah, mine were british finals rather than american finals, so it wasn't just end-of-term things but 21 hours of exams that were worth about 80% of my 3-year degree. so i really, *really* didn't want to have a period then! ah well.

yay! oxford is very cool. what college will you be at? do you like theatre and/or drinking? (if so) you should consider joining OULES, and learn all about pantomime. it's, er, very british.

Parsley brings on a late period. I don't think it's very effective at making you have your period earlier than it would have been due, though you do not have to have missed 2+ periods to use it! Also, you want to be sure you're not actually pregnant -- parsley leaves aren't strong enough to induce a miscarriage unless you're very sensitive or taking enough to drown yourself in. Like every other medication, some people respond better than others, so it's possible to have it just not work for you.

too many Vitamin C pills makes me throw up. your body gets rid of it when it has enough.

When I feel a cold coming on I take Vitamin C until I have a BM. It's not usually diarrhea [sp???] but they say if you take it until you poop then it can cure a cold. If that helps.

When I have taken Vitamin C to bring on a late period, I took 1000mg every hour or two during the day, for a few days. (See here for details - I have never done this for pregnancy, just for late periods due to stress.) I've never had any indigestion or bowel trouble this way (though I did get a heck of an upset stomach when I tried taking a few grams at once, not spaced out).

If you're just trying to induce a period, it won't work unless you've ovulated and are late anyway.

Otherwise, the only time that parsley tea didn't work for me I was pregnant. If that's a concern for you then take a test before trying anything else. If not then you can either persevere or wait a bit longer.

The parsley didn't work for me either. As for whether you're "doing it wrong", I've heard you're not supposed to actually boil the parsley or it won't work. Vitamin C did work for me though, but here's the thing - it has to be the kind without rose hips. I took 1000 mgs every hour and started bleeding after about four hours.

This is sooo bloody painful, I signed up for an account just to give you an answer. Now there are a few ways to go about this,. there is the Vit C., Parsley Tea,. AND,. but I'll get to that at the end.

Personally I am not comfortable with the Vit C method (even though my parents ARE herbalists and I am right now at this moment at my second job which is working in a health food store). I know the ill effects of over plugging your body with Vits, it can be just as bad as not getting enough.

SO,. Parsley tea,. you should be able to get dried Parsley in your local heath food store in tea bags OR loose,. if it is loose, 1 cup of freshly boiled water poured over 2 tablespoons of dried leaves, or use a tea bag. Let sit for 5 minutes.
To use fresh, 1 cup of freshly boiled water and a hand full of fresh leaves,. let sit for 20 minutes.
Drink either infusion 3-4 times a day NOT going over 4 days. If its still not there, you're body is just not ready and you'll have to give it a rest for a week.

Now that other one I was speaking of,. take a sprig of parsley and push it up near your cervix, change every 12 hours, do this no more than 3 days. The woman I learned it from gets her cycle in about 2 days. I end up with mine in just about 12 hours.

WARNING: PREGNANT WOMAN SHOULD NOT BE DRINKING PARSLEY TEA, IT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS IMPLICATIONS
