Veins and Boobs

So I go to get undressed last night and notice that the veins in my breasts are bright blue and really visible. I figure it has to do with being cold and getting out of the shower. But when I woke up this morning they were still visible around my nipples. Naturally I googled this, and naturally google told me that I was pregnant (as google or people on it seem to equate everything with pregnancy).

So two ept tests later, and two reassurances that the Ring is 99.9% effective, I'm fairly certain that while I am many things, knocked up does not seem to be one of them.

So then what the hell is going on with my boobs, and how can I make the butt ugly veins disappear again?

Are you really pale..? I am, and you can always see blue veins through my skin, lol :)
stretch 24th-Jul-2008 05:19 pm (UTC)
Not especially, but my breasts are obviously lighter than the rest of my body since I don't often do yardwork topless.

I've only just noticed them and I'm fairly certain this is a new development, which is what worries me...

BTW - XKCD is the shit.

I'm pale, too, and sometimes it's more noticeable and sometimes it's not, which is annoying and makes me self-conscious of my skin tone.

(me too)

Try coco butter! It helps reduce the visibleness of unevenness on the skin (stretch marks and the like)

google told me that my tonsilitus was because I was pregnant....
Since then I've stopped googling my symptoms :/

You win.

paraxeni 24th-Jul-2008 07:02 pm (UTC)
Oh TELL me about it! I had to ban my girlfriend from Doctor Google because everything is either pregnancy or cancer. She can't be knocked up cos she's an infertile dyke, so that leaves the Big C (or lupus Haha). That's why my user title on LJ is 'Pink Teeth and Palpitations', because she'd been searching for it!

OP- try typing almost any symptom into Google and pregnancy will appear. Try not to panic! The visible veins could be due to your hydration levels, where you are in your cycle, how cold you are, if you've lost or gained weight etc.
Don't worry!

This happens to me sometimes to. I'm not sure what the cause could be, but it always goes away eventually. :)

Reassuring. Thank you :)
__neonandchrome 24th-Jul-2008 06:06 pm (UTC)
Could be a random hormonal trigger. Did you recently start your Ring?
stretch 24th-Jul-2008 06:08 pm (UTC)
No, been on it about 6 months this time around. I took it out on Wednesday though. Maybe that did it...

I have olive skin [not pale at all], large breasts, and I have MASSIVE blue veins running through my boobs.
It's completely, and utterly normal. :)
stretch 24th-Jul-2008 07:40 pm (UTC)
Good to hear, I'm fairly olive toned too thanks to my mother.
miss_klutz 24th-Jul-2008 10:28 pm (UTC)
I'm olive toned, have small breasts, and occasionally I notice blue veins throughout my breasts. They go away eventually, so don't worry!

I was sifting through a Cosmo earlier (I know I know, infamous for misinformation...) and there was a little blurb about how a spike in estrogen can cause more visible (expanded) boob-veins. They're just visible 'cause the skin's so thin there.
stretch 25th-Jul-2008 12:00 am (UTC)
But what would cause an estrogen spike if I'm not pregnant?
ubergoober27 25th-Jul-2008 03:56 am (UTC)
Their guess was estrogen-heavy birth control. It could also be related to your cycle, since estrogen levels rise and fall throughout (I'm not sure of the exact mapping).

I'm lucky enough to be pasty white and have horribly visible veins all over the place, but I bet anything that causes increased bloodflow would cause more visible veins, just like when bald guys get angry and veins stand out from their foreheads!

I've also got them, but I just wanted to toss in an opinion about the appearance. I can understand not liking something about your body, but I actually think they're kind of neat -- very alive-looking. Perhaps I'm just a throwback to ancient Egypt, where they used to highlight them with blue makeup, but I don't think they're "butt-ugly" at all. You could consider looking at them from a different perspective, in case they don't go away or they come back!
pookykabuki 25th-Jul-2008 03:30 am (UTC)
I adore you for this! I have an abnormal breast condition called tubular breasts, and while finding a bra that supports those wonky things is a pain in the butt, I love them. Now you made me want to go find veinies!

Seriously, best comment.
stretch 25th-Jul-2008 05:19 am (UTC)
Thank you, I really appreciate that. I guess they scare me more than anything else because I don't remember them being there before, and I'm afraid they'll get worse and I'll become the girl with varicose vein breasts. But I can really appreciate your point, and as long as their not indicative of an underlying health problem then I'm more than happy to take them as they are.
hortonhearsawho 25th-Jul-2008 04:36 am (UTC)
Oh, man, I have the veiniest boobs this side of, well, probably ever. I actually have one that I love; on my right breast there's a fairly straight, rather large blue line that comes down from the top and then makes a complete circle around my areola. I just pointed it out to my boyfriend today and he was also greatly amused.

I'm extremely pale (I get made fun of for being fluorescent by the rest of my family) and especially when I get out of the shower my whole body, but especially my breasts and feet, are road maps. It has always been like that, and I think it's kind of neat. Please don't think they're ugly! I mean, everyone has veins, you can be certain of that, and I'm sure at some point or another everyone has gotten out of the shower, looked at a less-tan part of their body and gone, "Whoa." Just part of being human.
stretch 25th-Jul-2008 05:23 am (UTC)
Please don't think they're ugly!

I really hope I didn't offend you in any way, that wasn't my intention at all and in retrospect that statement was harsh. I'm more just worried that (since I don't recall being able to see them a week ago) this is a condition that will get worse and worse until my breasts just become a mountain range covered in huge vericose veins. If it were something I'd had all my life I probably would embrace it (like that fact that I've got enormous ears). I guess right now I'm just scared that their indicative of something worse.
hortonhearsawho 25th-Jul-2008 02:33 pm (UTC)
Oh no I wasn't offended at all! Don't worry. I was more concerned that you were thinking something that seems to me to be perfectly normal was ugly, which is just no good. I do understand your concern about them suddenly appearing, however.

(And I, too, have ears the size of sails. hehe)

I totally understand where everyone is coming from. I got the stupid google diagnosis, I'm not pregnant, and yes I'm on the pill. BUT I've had this one ugly, very noticeable blue vein right above my right areola on my breast ever since my boobs popped up when i was 13. I do love my body and my breasts but HELP ME! Is there anyway at all to reduce the appearance of them? I can't stand it.
gk58xmr 2nd-Aug-2009 07:11 am (UTC)
~Not to offend anyone~ this is for the people that are looking for a way to get rid of the veins.

I've been incredibly self-conscious of my veiny boobs for a while now. i talked to my mom (who also had them)and she told me about a thing called scoleropathy and i researched it found that its an injection into the vein to bring it away from the surface. it safe and effective. You might think it cuts off blood flow, but your whole breast is full of more than enough blood vessels to supply it with blood. They also have another alternative by use of lazer but that's the less common approach.

theres my two cents :)
jdifootball1 26th-Apr-2011 02:10 am (UTC)
there is veins in them because they want to be fondled by my hands:)
Batsy Xc (Abbi) I got a blue vein..5th-Feb-2016 03:03 am (UTC)
I have a sorta a large blue vein in my areola on my left boob it doesn't hurt or anything it just when my nipple gets hard the vein pops out of my skin. Someone told me it means that my breast is healthy. I'm not pregnant and it's been here for a long time. I just wonder what it is.
