YI

If only there was a test for YI that didn't require going to the doctor, see, I knew I had it, then last night I finished my three day Canesten treatment and now I'm not sure if it's gone. My symptoms weren't sivere, simply put, only pain after sex and once I wiped myself too hard after going to the loo so now I'm not sure. Here's hoping it's gone and I can't get freaky until he's had treatment with a different kind of cream for a minimum of three days. (which he decided he didn't want until I threatened him with no sex until he did). lol.

So my question is, how do I know it's gone without going to the doctors?

Though it may have been a YI, for what it's worth that single symptom would not be enough to make me think it was likely a YI. You weren't experiencing any of the "giveaway" YI symptoms, and although obviously every infection is different, I would think that if you did have a YI the during sex would be as uncomfortable as the after. Unfortunately, there's no way to be sure that I'm aware of without seeing a health care professional.

My mum diagnosed me, she told me to open my mouth, which had been light yellow for a while and said "You've got thrush!" so I haven't doubted having it or not, it's just that because I don't have strong symptoms, I won't know if it's gone :(

I see. However, even if your mother was correct in your diagnosis (which we have no way to verify) the issue here is that an oral yeast infection does not mean you would have a vaginal yeast infection, and I'm confused why she would advise treating it vaginally.

Neither would I, lol

Okay, well, as far as my advice goes: at this point, there is no real evidence that you had a vaginal yeast infection, and only what I'm presuming is a non-doctor's advice that you had an oral yeast infection.

You did not have any of the classic YI symptoms (cottage cheese discharge, moderate to severe vaginal and / or vulvar itching or burning), and your only symptom was pain after sex but not, I'm assuming, discomfort during, which makes it more unlikely that you had a vaginal YI.

Since you did not get a diagnosis and did not have any "giveaway" YI symptoms, I would at this point suspect that you did not have a YI, or that if you did it was so mild that the three-day treatment would have almost certainly worked. At any rate, if you're not experiencing any of the above symptoms, I wouldn't sweat it.

And if it continues to hurt post-sex I promise I'll see a doctor =D
