vaginal irritation, chafing, remedies

okay so i'm having some painful chafing irritation in the crotch. the skin on my labia and inner buttocks is raised, red, and in pain in large patches. i'm not worried that this is warts or anything-- it's very definitely chafing. it looks exactly how my skin on my inner thighs looks when i sweat and the skin rubs together.

my question is, how do i remedy this? it's really painful. i wear cotton only underwear, but i do ride a bike all the time. and where i live, it's extremely hot and humid right now. i soaked in a cool bath for a bit, but i'm wondering what else i can do to make the irritation go down and to keep it down. ideas?

My favorite remedy for chafing and irritation due to excess sweating, discharge, running/walking, and rough sex is Desitin. The goopy thick diaper rash cream (used in small amounts) is a life saver for me!

i was thinking about diaper rash cream! how quickly does it make your irritation go down?

for me, how quickly it goes away depends on the severity of the irritation. Usually if I've had the irritation for less than a day, it's gone over night. At the most it's taken a couple of nights to go away. Aside from leaving you with messy undies though, it's the most soothing thing I've found. I've even used it to deal with YI's that have left me sore.

yeah, i know about these fancy items. i think i may start wearing bike specific shorts when riding, and then change when i arrive at my destination (since most of what i do is commuting).

bye-bye money!

Hydrocortizone should reduce the swelling, and shouldn't irritate. You could also have a yeast infection or "jock itch". If the desitin or hydrocortizone doesn't make it go away, see your doc. Untreated, that stuff can be so freakin' painful, as the skin can break down.

yeah i read about jock itch; i think i may have that, so i will pay attention to whether or not the skin heals. my partner gets it, especially in the summer, and according to mayo clinic, the fungal infection can be passed from person to person.

fortunately, i am very familiar with how my body does during a yeast infection, and it has never been like this before. i don't anticipate this being yeast, and i really hope it's not!
