itching during period?

so i started my period on friday, and ever since then my lips have been itching! outer lips where there is here that is. i took a shower yesterday and it went away after the shower, but after i had to use the restroom it started itching all over again.

any ideas as to why this could be happening? i usually don't itch this much while on my period.

I had an itchy period last month, and though it was slightly annoying, I attributed it to being towards the end of it and using tampons and that I was just sort of dry. At the very end of it, I had sex, then a day later had a raging yeast infection. I think for me, I had the beginnings of a yeastie that got aggravated and turned much worse, so it's possible the same thing is going on with you (but hopefully not!).

how can i tell if i'm getting a yeast infection? i've never had one before.

Take a look at the yeast infection FAQ here- http://www.vaginapagina.com/index.php?title=Yeast_Infection

It's pretty informative. If you haven't had one before, it's best to be diagnosed by a doctor before trying to treat it just in case it's something else. It could be some other irritation that'll go away with your period, so I'd see if it persists after your period ends; if so it might be a good idea to see a doctor. What was happening with me may very well not be the same for you. Hope you feel better!

Do you use tampons or pads?

It could be the beginning of a yeast infection.
OR, you mentioned that it came back after using the restroom, wash yourself after doing the deed (that includes peeing). Just wiping will definitely make you itchy.
If you use pads, then maybe you need to change the brand you're using. Also, with pads, the blood is going to be all over the vulva, which may also contribute to the itchiness. It's happened to me before.

neither, i use the diva cup.

but i have been leaking majorly and the underwear that i'm wearing(for this purpose mainly) has been really bloody.

i did wipe extra because i was told that i could be having exterior blood coming on my underwear and not actual leakage. i took some kleenex and whiped parts of my area so that could be it!

If you have hair down there, it could just be follicle growth causing the itchy.

By the way, did you change any 'pad" or tampons brand???
It may affect you differently.
It happens to me!

O O...
then either you are extra sensitive (skin wise)
or a regular yeast infection ....or.... different type of underwear.
Its an annoying hassle isn't it?

same type of underwear...don't smell like bread/yeast/beer/ and i don't have any weird cottage cheese stuff...don't know if i'm sensitive.

what's a hassle?
