large labia majora

Hey there.  I've been recently doing searches on google about the size of labia majora because I'm self-concious about mine.  I'm sixteen years old & have no interest in any type of surgery or any type of procedure that may cause me harm.  I'm relatively overweight, not necessarily obese though.  I searched google for a while but my results mainly consisted of the procedures such as labiaplasty.  I'm doing sports at my school and have been watching what I eat.  I think I may have read a post in this community about someone who lost 20 pounds & noticed a change in the size of her labia majora.  I was wondering if anyone else has experienced results like these?  Will weight loss atleast help my problem?  If not, are there other routes to take besides surgery?

Thanks !

Before you do anything else, take a look at this: http://community.livejournal.com/vaginapagina/8905020.html

It's part of VaginaPagina's Everyday Bodies Project. I was self-conscious about my own labia, until I saw this and found out labia come in many different shapes, sizes and colors! I hope this helps put your mind at ease some...

I STRONGLY second you take a look at this.

It's extremely empowering to see that vulva's and labias (as well as breasts, butts etc) are all different but lovely in their own unique way :) It made me less self-conscious as well.

Yeah, that post definitely helped ease some pressure away. It's just the whole self-concious issue, especially being in that "experiencing" age & stuff lol.

Thanks . :) That definitely goes to show everyone's unique lol . However, I'd still like to make mine .. smaller lol

Have you checked out VP's Everyday Bodies Project? It features real life (and not safe for work) photos of women's vulvas, and you can see the vast differences between women. The size of your labia is completely normal, but if they get in the way of your everyday life or feel uncomfortable, you could consider surgery.

I've heard of some women reducing the size of their labia majora and mons pubis by losing weight, but it doesn't work for all women. For some women, weight loss or gain doesn't really affect what goes on down there. Sorry I don't have better advice.

I fourth the Everyday Bodies Project! Check it out!

Your labia are beautiful the way they are. EVERYone's labia are beautiful the way they are. If you think about it objectively, there's absolutely NO reason that smaller labia should be considered "better" -- that's totally arbitrary, as are many other things in our beauty standard, and yet we (myself definitely included) obsess about these things when a) they're totally normal and b) no one else even notices! Good luck.

I wouldn't call having a large labia majora a problem. I never even really thought about the size of mine until I started watching porn and was like hmmm theirs is smaller than mine. But it is porn, so it doesn't count hah. I think it is best to love your body the way (in terms of your vagina) instead of looking for methods to change it. Lots of women have large labia majoras and it is perfectly fine. I don't think guys ever even think about the size either (if you are worried about that at all). I have never heard any guys make a comment about a girl's labia size hah ... and if a guy ever made a comment about mine I would make sure he never felt the need to say something like that to a girl ever again. Our society makes us grow up to be so self concious of so many flaws .... don't let something like the size of your labia be one of them on top of everything else ... best of luck sweetie.

Not to mention that a lot of porn stars are told that they must get surgery on their vulvas to be marketable to the industry. There's a reason that a lot of the vulvas look the same in video porn...

As for magazine porn, airbrushing plays a huge roll.

I have the same problem, always have with mine. It's actually painful for me so I'm saving up for the surgery. Like the previous commenter, I never really pain much attention until I started watching porn, but I can't wear thongs and I'm tired of looking like I have a stinger.. Sadly, I dont know of any other options besides surgery.

I know this may not be an easy thing for you to be comfortable with, but I think large labia are kinda sexy. They're fun to perform oral sex on.

i will give you a male perspective of the situation. i happen to love the look of large labias. i find that every woman is different and exciting, in the way that their vulvas are shaped and function. i will try to remain fairly clinical here. but the statement i wish to post overall is - love the way you were made, large labias can be fun, and as i stated earlier i find the look of large labias very arousing. please do not have a hack surgeon remove something which has so many additional nerve structures.

large labia MINORAS or large labia MAJORAS ? lol :]
wiccanwarrior43 Re: large labia majora24th-May-2007 05:28 pm (UTC)
both are clinical terms, and unless you are extremely large in those areas, i would leave nature alone. i have not viewed your circumstances - since i am not authorized to do so on this site, but a few inches of labia minora or majora shouldnt be an issue. after all us males have to carry around a pair of testicles, and we simply just have to be aware that they are there and act accordingly to avoid a painful reminder that we did something wrong. there is a book that approaches the subject from an artistic point of view- FEMALIA by JOANI BLANK - from DOWN THERE PRESS, this book was compiled by a woman , who like your self, felt that there might be something wrong with her labia appearance and she began photographing other womens vulvas - to show that every woman is different and beautiful in that area, and as a male, i would tend to agree. the pornography industry can and can't be a true measure of what ordinary women appear like. the industry from the 70's and 80's i feel is more of an accurate reflection of the true female form than the industry today. in the 70's and 80's there was less focus on plastic surgery to appear "perfect", and merely focus on the sexual actions of the actresses instead. the industry as it stands today is more of a display of what plastic surgeons can do when given the proper amount of money. to clarify my previous statement about the function of your labias- longer ones provide more of a "sheath" during intercourse and provide more nerve surfaces - which in turn should provide added pleasure for both persons involved. so- i would stick to my earlier statement - leave 'em alone and enjoy. but ultimately it is your body and the final decision rests with you.

a small footnote to the above- i was speaking figuritively on my statement of " a few inches"- should more like an inch or inch and a half.
wiccanwarrior43 Re: large labia majora24th-May-2007 06:43 pm (UTC)
and a "legal" disclaimer- i do not wish to view your circumstances, and the above mentioned literature should only be viewed with your mom's consent.(underage women) since it depicts explicit photos of female genitalia.
this being said - i hope i was able to help any of the women on this site arrive at an appropriate decision regarding their appearance.
