Vagina Taste

I recently got cunnilingus performed on me for the first time (yay!) and that was lovely. The Boy is great and I'd like to keep having sex with him... however, I have a worry!

Because of the community I have become more intimately acqauinted with my vadge as of late and after I got Teh Oral Sex I wondered what I tasted like. I've heard a lot of people say that they taste sweet or nutty, but when I tasted myself I tasted SOUR! Like, puckery and bitter. I don't smell bad, at least I don't think so, and it made me sad to find that my taste did not match my pleasingly pungent musk. Looking back, The Boy did seem to come up for air rather quickly and I took that to mean he was impatient for PIV, which was totally all right by me at the time... but could he have desisted because of my bitter taste? I am horribly embarassed and don't want to let this deter further sex (especially further oral) with This Boy!

I know all about pineapple juice being good, but I've also heard that fruit is good. I eat a lot (I mean a LOT) of citrus but I also drink a ton of coffee (which I've heard is bad) and have a beer on a regular basis (alcohol is supposedly very bad, yes?)... I really really don't want to change that part of my lifestyle, I RELY on my morning stimulant. Could a cup of pineapple overcome the bad, acidic efffects of my life-sustaining caffeine?

I always seem to have a decent amount of smegma, which I clean, could that affect taste? I work at a pool, which I suspect might contribute to the amount of smegma I experience, and the skin where my labia connect to my inner thighs is delicate and peely in a dank kind of way. I'm prome to jock itch, thanks to the pool, and monitor that area super closely, especially since I'm a big girl and due to thigh rubbage that area doesn't get as much air as it should. Is any of this related to my bitter taste? Could the chlorine I pickle myself in have permeated my discharge as well as my hair and skin?

Should I eat only kiwi, abandon my underwear, sleep upside down?
Begone bitterness! I want a tasty muff to munch!

Citrus= acid Even if it tastes sweet, it's still acidic.... oranges are a little sweeter, not think of lemons & limes & grapefruits, theur acidity makes your sweat smell tangy... I bet that would have a lot to do with bitterness too.

I was going to say that, too. Sugar becomes acidic, in your system. One thing that's really bad for personal flavor/scent is milk, which is a bacteriological substance. If you drink it, stop. You'll notice a difference.

I haven't had any averse experiences with tasting woman. THe most noticeable was a woman who left a taste as if I'd just eaten raw tomatoes... very musky and pungeant. Usually, a woman has very little taste and whatever it is, it's not bad.

The most noticeable thing is smell, and while the fragrance of a healthy vagina is a wonderful thing, a few women I've noticed have pronounced "off" odors... but this has actually only happened twice, and in both cases they were unfamiliar with themselves, so I assume they didn't respect or take care of it.

Something that you may find makes a difference, is real maple syrup, the expensive stuff, not that fake stuff. As a male, I was at that time stressing about the taste of my cum and I found this had a pronounced effect on my taste, after a few days.

But like all the other posts are saying, I think you could be sweating over nothing, and notice how it changes over a month's time, or even over a day. And drop the vitamins, if you take them. Much better to get that from foods, even if you get less.

how do i change my taste(sour)
im embarassed to have oral with it being that way
zhukora1 1st-Apr-2007 08:25 am (UTC)
The thing I've noticed that changes my girly flavor the most is taking vitamin pills. This is kind of hard for me because I know vitamins are good for me and I should take them, but at the same time, they change my taste from salty and buttery to sour, bitter, and just plain gross (I know because I taste it myself).

If you regularly take vitamin pills or iron supplements, it might be an interesting experiment to stop taking them for a month or two and see if that makes a difference (not that I mean to discourage you from having complete nutrition or anything).

I thought I was the only person in the world who was affected in my lady bits by taking vitamins. Wow, your comment makes me feel much better! :)

My taste changes based on where my cycle is at. Sometimes it is bitter than others, sometimes sweeter.. I don't really worry about it.
mercy_rain 1st-Apr-2007 12:17 pm (UTC)
*agreed* There are points in my cycle where the taste is a lot sharper, but c'est la vie, it'll change again in a day or two!

I've noticed that when I drink a lot of coffee, my boyfriend comes up from down below, and says: You taste like a starbucks factory!
So, it's good if your guy likes coffee. hah.

ninjageishagirl 1st-Apr-2007 09:51 am (UTC)
In my own personal experience, it doesn't matter what a girl tastes like: it's still fun to go down on her and I enjoy it regardless. :) In fact, the taste is usually the last thing on my mind.
froggbee 1st-Apr-2007 10:00 am (UTC)
Ditto. The taste isn't as big a factor as smell... And even then, that's usually not an issue. The only problems I ever have had going down are the errant hairs... Or there was one girl who didn't always wipe properly and sometimes she'd have lintballs of toilet paper.
ninjageishagirl 1st-Apr-2007 10:03 am (UTC)
I can see how the toilet paper thing could be a bit of a problem, haha. That wouldn't appeal to me much.
my_kateling 1st-Apr-2007 04:33 pm (UTC)
Thanks, good to know!

Oooh yay!
jillette 1st-Apr-2007 12:47 pm (UTC)
Hair can trap some odour but that's if there is a large amount of it around.
my_kateling 1st-Apr-2007 04:34 pm (UTC)
Nah, I groom. Working at the pool kind of necessitates it - there's nothing more embarassing than having a kid point at a stay hair and ask what's going on.
loonylupinlover 1st-Apr-2007 02:36 pm (UTC)
Words I'd use to describe myself would be tangy, sour, salty, with maybe the tiniest sweet undertone. Tangy is the best word, I think. There's always a good amount of salt with my discharge, and I've always enjoyed the taste. Whenever I ask my boyfriend if it's okay with him, he always says I taste wonderful, and I have no choice to believe him as he's the one who gets more than just a sample, heh. Ask him if he was just eager for some sexin' or if he actually thought your taste could stand a bit of improvement. If so, it's nothing personal -- but you can try and drink pineapple juice, or even just increase your water intake so that your taste is thinned out and not so strong.
my_kateling 1st-Apr-2007 04:35 pm (UTC)
That's good advice, I should probably just drink more water in general! Thanks.
thenuddpants 1st-Apr-2007 03:03 pm (UTC)
i have tasted myself before, and i do NOT like my own taste. its kinda wierd and has a sour-ish aftertaste. my boyfriend, however, LOVES it. he loves going down on me and will even lick my fingers if ive had them in me (sorry if thats tmi). so, even if you dont like your own taste it doesnt mean he wont like it.
my_kateling 1st-Apr-2007 04:36 pm (UTC)
That's a relief. And really good to know that others are sour too! Phew.
awoodnymph 1st-Apr-2007 03:58 pm (UTC)
My boy and I went to a drag show last night and he bought each of us a chocolate vagina. Here's the convo that ensued:

Me: Are you going to eat your vagina?
Him: No. I'm going to save it and show everyone.
Me: Why not?! It's chocolate! It's like the best taste ever!
Him: Real vaginas taste better.

He also bought a pink button that says, "vagina friendly" on it.

My point is...even if you don't like your taste, the boy probably does. It's an aphrodisiac to them, and, apparently, even better than chocolate!
my_kateling 1st-Apr-2007 04:38 pm (UTC)
Even better than chocolate! That's pretty damn good.

The vagina friendly buttons are ubiquitous in our town, it's the most commonly seen backpack button! Your boy sounds awesome.

Thanks!

Talk to him about this, you could very well be fretting over nothing :)

I just recently bought I love female orgasm, which I probably wouldn't have with VP, but it's been pretty helpful in this area about clearing some stuff up so I'll share with you.

Women's juices usually taste and smell different at different times in their menstrual cycle. Partners may notice differences just before a woman's period, just after it, and, if she's not on hormonal birth control, around ovulation. You might see if there are times of the month your partner particularly enjoys your taste or would prefer to avoid, and plan your oral interludes accordingly. Also, while women do taste different from each other and frequently come up with theories about how this is affected by what they eat or drink, most women who try to change their taste by eating large amounts of some food(pineapple is the most famous one) haven't found much, if any, change. Many partners have commented, however, that smokers have a noticeable bitter taste.

So there you have it. I would say, based on reading that, trying to change you taste by eating certain foods is a waste of time. Also, I go through food phases where I'll eat tons of one thing for a month straight and then move onto something else, pineapple was the food a few months back, and my boyfriend said that he didn't notice any difference at all in my taste. He was convinced that it wouldn't have an affect because I'm a vegetarian and he had heard that eating meat has a negative affect on one's taste, but I never thought meat had any impact.

I think food as the same affect on semen, though I have no proof besides personal experience, because my boyfriend goes through a bottle of tabasco sauce about every two or three weeks, (he seriously puts it on EVERYTHING) and I don't think his semen tastes bad.

without* vp
my_kateling Re: dorian and marshall help1st-Apr-2007 08:27 pm (UTC)
I don't smoke cigarettes, just marijuana like one or twice a week, so that's not so much a factor. I guess I'll stop imagining my fridge full of Dole now!

One the one hand, I'm glad I don't have to/need to change my regular habits, but on the other I'm going to have to just take it on faith that I do taste good to some people and I'm not much good at faith.

Sounds like I really need this book. Thank you so much!
strwbryshurie Re: dorian and marshall help1st-Apr-2007 08:52 pm (UTC)
If you're not one for faith and are really concerned about your taste, I would try to cut back on the marijuana. Maybe just once every other week or just cut it out completely for one month just to see if there's a noticeable difference. I would definitely ask my partner what he thought about my taste before I changed any of my habits, though. He may like how you taste already, so why cut out the weed if you don't need to? (though I'm not encouraging you to keep smoking, just looking out for your interests).

worst that happens is that you learn a)he likes how you taste regardless, b)marijuana has an affect on how you taste and if you know you're going to be getting action, you can not smoke for a couple days, or c)marijuana has no affect on how you taste and you don't have to lessen your smoking.

I would really recommend buying this book, though. I bought it off the website using the VP code and got 33% off and there's a lot of useful information in it. There's a whole chapter on oral sex alone. It's worth the 13 bucks including shipping and handling.
my_kateling Re: dorian and marshall help1st-Apr-2007 09:03 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I think I'll do a little science experiment! Weird but cool.

What a cheap book! Thanks for the reccomendation.
etherealfire Re: dorian and marshall help1st-Apr-2007 09:46 pm (UTC)
I bought the book because of VP too.
strwbryshurie Re: dorian and marshall help1st-Apr-2007 10:32 pm (UTC)
livejournal used to be all about reading my friends' livejournals.

now it's all about reading vp. =X

lol indeed! VP and cat_macros
rearrangedfaith 1st-Apr-2007 09:59 pm (UTC)
yeah, the citrus could be causing your 'sour' taste, since it's acidic.
my_kateling 2nd-Apr-2007 04:14 am (UTC)
It's puckery, like an unripe persimmon or like orange peel.
hikerpoet 3rd-Apr-2007 01:38 pm (UTC)
As everyone said, it doesn't sound like you need to worry anyway, but what hasn't been discussed is whether you tasted yourself RIGHT after he did. I partly ask because you said you didn't feel self-conscious 'til later. Remember if you tasted yourself after sex it very well could have been latex from the condom (if you used one) or semen (if you didn't) giving the sour taste. And if you tasted yourself, like, several days later, you are still going to taste very different after going about your business all day than when you are super-aroused. I've noticed my natural lubrication when I'm turned on is nice and sweet, and while my day-to-day taste isn't bad, it is 100% different thing.
my_kateling 3rd-Apr-2007 03:50 pm (UTC)
Oh! Thanks! Yeah, I tasted myself like five days later.
